Essay Similarities Danielle Piazza [pic] 11/19/2009 English Comp I Dr. Knight The first essay chosen by me to comparatively examine is “Bombs Bursting in Air” written by Beth Johnson, an essay about a mother trying to find a way to share bad news with her children about the hardships of life. She begins to recollect moments in her life where things have gone horribly wrong. The essay is written in first-person sharing the author’s views and thoughts. The author and her children are at the Junior Olympics where her son is competing on a relay-race team. During the Star Spangled Banner, she begins thinking about how bombs are a metaphor pertaining to tragedies throughout life.
Katniss Fears Often characters have a lot of fears. In the novel Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins, we meet Katniss Everdeen who lives in District 13 in the country of Panem. Katniss wants to overthrow the capitol, but first she has to become the Mockingjay and put her feelings of anger and distrust aside in order to overthrow the Capitol. I was fascinated by Katniss because she had to grow up faster to provide for her mom and sister Prim after her father died and how she volunteered to take her sister’s place for the 74th Hunger Games. When we first meet Katniss she had become the head of the house.
The past and present generations portray a compelling dual narrative to emphasise significance in the novel. Bad Blood focuses on a distraught Aboriginal girl from an orphanage, family complications that are in desperate need of being solved and revenge patterns that you will have never heard, read or imagined before! Neither of the protagonists had an easy life growing up in their childhood. This is where the theme of the importance of family emerges. When Ruby was a young child her mother abandoned her and sent her to an Aboriginal Girl’s Orphanage where she learnt the basic skills and duties to become a
Darkness Before Dawn by Sharon Draper is about a girl name Keisha and all of her friends and how everybody she knows had to overcome huge obstacles in their lives. No matter what it was death, injuries, or family issues. This book is good because of the characters especially Gerald, a friend of the Keisha’s, themes and the style of the writing. So far, Keisha is still trying to move on over her ex-boyfriend Andy’s death. But just when the school year just started, the principle introduces the school to his son Jonathan.
Anne Frank underwent a life changing twenty five months of hiding during her teenage years with her family and friends due to the overthrowing Nazi party in Germany . During these years feelings of fear, faith, and courage overwhelmed her but brought her through experiences that she documented, this has educated millions of people about the Holocaust. All aspects of life during hiding including what she struggled with, learned from, and thought about was captured in the pages of her diary. When Anne and her family are first sent into hiding, she has a very optimistic outlook on life. She is always thinking about how much worse it could be and how lucky she is to have what she is given and still have the comfort of her family.
Your first name Your last name: Student name: Date: “The Afghan Girl 1984” This was a photo taken by Steve McCurry, a natural geographic photographer about an Afghan girl during the bloody five-year civil war. In a refugee camp in Pakistan, McCurry approached a young Afghan girl in a tent that served as a school for the girls who allowed him to take a photo. The Afghan girl photo to the photographer was just but another piece taken in the line of duty. To his surprise, the image of a beautiful girl turned out to win many people’s hearts as it was seen as her people’s life story, their struggles, and challenges. A good picture should be detailed, should have a solid information that it passes out.
