In the story “ The Outsiders” by S.E Hinton each character feels acceptance from someone or something. Pony feels acceptance from Darry, Johnny and Bob feels acceptance from their parents, and Dallas feels acceptance from society. At the beginning of the novel, Ponyboy blames Darry for being too strict and always bothering him for not using his head. He recognizes the sacrifices that Darry has made to raise his two little brothers, but still thinks Darry just doesn't care for him at all. But in Chapter 5, when Soda and Darry come to the hospital, Ponyboy has a revelation.
It was about a retired Korean War veteran, named Walt Kowalski who is pretty racist towards the Hmong family that lives next door. The movie starts out at a funeral. The funeral is for Walt’s wife and his family is there. He’s not on very good speaking terms with his sons. His grandkids are all over after the ceremony and he finds his grand daughter, Ashley, smoking next to his car.
Harry’s father is definitely most affected by the death of his wife. He displays the struggles someone goes through after the loss of their significant other. Herrick shows how Harry’s father deals with the situation by the routine of visiting his wife’s grave the “first Sunday of every month” with the boys, who “put on clean clothes and…wear shoes for the only time that week” as a sign of respect and love for their deceased mother. Harry’s father updates her on the recent events in their lives which makes him feel as if she is still there with them. Keith and Harry on the other hand, try not to notice too much that their mother is not with them.
For Matt and Ruth, this couple have to cope with the loss of their youngest son Frank, who was gunned down in cold blood by Richard Strout, the husband of Frank’s girlfriend Mary Ann. For Matt and Ruth, they suffered on multiple levels. They had to cope and heal from the loss of their beloved son, who had a beautiful future ahead of him, but also experience other injustices such as seeing Richard Strout walking around town, flaunting his freedom, while their son was dead. Matt, in a conversation with his close friend Willis Trottier, remarked, “Every day since he got out. (he was asked how often he thought about Strout since the murder) I didn’t think about bail.
Maus II Chapter 1 Art gets a phone call from his father saying that his wife Mala, has stolen money from him and left him. He promptly goes with his wife to his father’s cabin to stay with him for a few days. On the drive there, Art explains to his wife how growing up with his parents idolizing his dead brother Richeu was hard for him. I can relate because I have always felt a sort of sibling rivalry with my older sister, though she is alive and well. The next day they go for a walk and he tells him about how he was lucky at Auschwitz, a polish guard kept him well fed and clothed so that he may learn English from him.
She bit down on her bottom lip as her tears continued to cascade down her cheeks. She looked at the pale man lying on the hospital bed before her, grasping his hand as if at any moment he might slip away from her. It was her first week back at school when PC Dawson, a work colleague of her dads, collected her from her lesson. It was that day her whole world came crashing down. The day she found out her father had been shot and placed in a coma, one she was told he may never awake.
Transform from one thing to another. Change is represented in the newspaper article by the head line “ten die in QLD floods, 78 missing. The head line tells the reader that a negative change has occurred. The first opening paragraph represents emotional change as a boy as a four year old boy has died. This is an emotional change for the family of the little boy as they have to cope with the death of a family member.
My heart had sunk to the deepest part of the world. I felt as if he had left me in the world alone. His funeral was on a Friday that he was supposed to pick my sister and I up for McDonalds. My sister refused to go because she did not believe my mom. But I missed school to watch my best friend be laid to rest.
However, this is somewhat odd because Leper is a very peaceful naturalist. Months after his enrollment, Gene receives a telegram saying that Leper has escaped from the military. Worrying about Leper, Gene decides to visit him where he realized that Leper has gone insane and also accusing Gene of purposely pushing Finny off the branch. When Gene returns back to Devon, Brinker does not let go of the accusation and decides to have a “trial” for the event with other boys of the school. Realizing what is going on and outraged, Finny decides to leave in tears and when reaches the marble stairs, falls down them breaking his leg again.
They were both 19. At 19 years of age Rat had watched his buddy die in front of his eyes. In the beginning of the story Rat has written a letter to his buddy’s sister and really “poured his heart out in it” ( 287-288).The “cooze” ( 288) never writes back. Many soldiers, male and female, are young, when they are sent to war. They are forever changed and their way of talk is just one thing that is altered.
