In the film Medicine Man highlighted a lot of environmental issues; Deforestation where by the indigenous people land was being invaded and destroyed, the Brazilian rainforest (Amazon) and the people’s culture were disappearing. The act of clear cutting was being done which causes loss of habitat and also by removing a link in the food chain. A fight results and a bulldozer catches fire, destroying the village and the research station along with many acres of rainforest. In the rainy season the water would rise in the river is normal and expected, however the deforestation has made it rain more and the river rise more than usual. The building of roads also affects Dr. Campbell’s research by bringing in logging which destroying the forest and thus the flowers and ants taking away his research subject. The controversy in the film is the disagreement between Dr. Campbell and the logging company, the disrespect for traditional, the logging company in the city did not know about the way of live in the forest and how much it means to the indigenous people., they wanted to make their life better by building the roads while Dr. Campbell wanted to research more on what is the cure for cancer. The issue was resolve when Crane, the research assistant promise to send new equipment that Dr. Campbell wants to work on his project with and she also accept to work with him. Even though the logging company was doing their job , I would have educate them more about the lives of the indigenous people because they did not believe that the cure for cancer was
