Black Hawk Down Black Hawk down started off with a Somalian man leading the U.S. marines to Aidad’s political advisor. When the word “Irene” was given, the marines moved out. The “skinny’s” burned rubber tires to signal to the rest of the militia to warn of the incoming U.S. troops. The Marines had successfully captured the target and were headed back to base when, a Black Hawk (helicopter) was hit in the tail wing with a RPG. When the Black Hawk went down the objective of the marines was not only to get the target back to base, but also save the men in the crashed Black Hawk.
Viet Cong, communist soldiers hiding in South Vietnam set explosives in buildings, cars and military bases to harass the Americans and their South Vietnamese allies. These terroristic acts on the South killed soldiers and civilians all the same. The guerilla warfare did not stop on the streets. Booby traps in the jungle and falling down holes with pungi sticks impaling young soldiers were the fears of patrols, not actual gunfire contact. Soon, America knew that conventional warfare tactics with the communist guerilla fighters would not work.
I believe Brady chose Why Marines Fight as the title because we all wonder why average men would risk there life for us. Or why they would charge into a spot where Death is patiently waiting for them. One good quote is the one he starts with, “Come on you sons of Bi*****”. “Half a dozen wars ago in France, on June 2nd of 1918, Marine gunnery sergeant Dan Daly stepped in front of the 4th Brigade of Marines, mustered for another bloody frontal assault on the massed machine guns of Germans that had been murderously sweeping the wheat fields at Belleau Wood. Death awaited.
Faced with incredible enemy resistance, Cpl. Stowers took charge, setting such a courageous example of bravery and leadership that he inspired his men to follow him in the attack. With extraordinary heroism and complete disregard of personal danger under devastating fire, he crawled forward, leading his squad toward an enemy machine-gun nest which was causing heavy casualties to his
Now when Easy Company landed they got scattered all over the place. So with them not be at full strength they sent 13 men led by Lt. Richard D. Winters to attack the German battery. There they used speed and audacity to overcome the larger force they were up against. In the aftermath Lt. Winters and his men wiped out a fifty-man platoon of elite German paratroops, destroyed the
He earned his respect, and he earned his value as a soldier. And even more so the tears should start to stream when Private Ryan says to his wife, “Tell me I’ve lived a good life. Tell me I’m a good man.” Ryan has
In 1951 a seven mile stretch of hills running north and south, the cries of men dying could be heard along with the retort of artillery and machine gun fire throughout the valley. This location of such destruction was Heartbreak Ridge, located just north of the 38th parallel the U.S. 2nd Infantry Division along with its NATO allies were making a push to take the ridge and hills to prevent the North Koreans and their Chinese allies from invading South Korea again. The month long campaign to take Heartbreak Ridge would push the U.S. and her allies to the breaking point but their sheer determination and fortitude would see them through to the end and to victory. In 1951 the Korean War has turned into a stalemate along the 38th parallel where

Suddenly I heard guns being fired and bombs erupting, we were under heavy artillery fire. Sargent Warren yelled out, "We are under attack by their patrol group!" The two days of training definitely did not suffice what was happening before my eyes; I was so scared and confused. I jumped into the shell-hole closest to me to escape the flying bullets. I could hear guns from both sides rapidly being fired off.
Gordon and Shughart were courageous in showing their bravery because they went beyond the call of duty, volunteering themselves to be inserted to protect four other soldiers in a crash site with a growing number of enemies closing in on them with only being equipped with their sniper rifles and side arms. (2011) Shughart showed their loyalty to the U.S. Army and fellow soldiers that day because of their personal devotion to take control of the crash site by themselves showing they have faith to their country by standing up to fight off the enemies that were after the U.S Army. (2003) MSG Gary Gordon and SFC Randy Shughart showed honor by asking the operation
