The kangaroo is one of Australia’s most darling animals, and most species are endemic to Australia. Kangaroos live in Australia and nearby islands in the Soouth Pacific. There are over 60 different species of kangaroo and their close relatives, with all kangaroos belonging to the 9 family Macropodoidea..Species of kangaroo’s vary in their size. territory and habitats ,Most species of kangaroo’s stay in one place unless there is a drought and at that time they are able to travel more then 100 miles as they search for food and water. When the baby kangaroo is born it is called A JOEY. It weighs less then 2 grams at birth and crawls up its mothers belly and into her pouch. It is so small that not even the mother can touch it all she can do is lick a path in her fur for it to travel along The baby stays attached to its mom for 9 months. After 9 months the joey will begin to leave the pouch for extended periods of time returning for a feed until it longer needs milk. Kangaroos are herbivorous, eating a lot of different plants, and in some cases fungi. Most are nocturnal but some are active in the early morning and late afternoon if temperatures are cool enough for feedings. During their waking hours they graze and browse. Different kangaroo species live in a range of different Habitats, for example potoroids make nests and tree-kangaroos live in trees,others climb in forest woods. Larger species of kangaroo tend to shelter under trees or in caves and rock clefts. Kangaroos of all sizes have one thing in common, powerful back legs with long feet.
