This essay will assess the three possible scenarios in relation to the Assassination of President Kennedy, in Dallas, Texas in 1963. I will review the evidence in relation to Lee Harvey Oswald, the Mafia and the central intelligence Agency. To anticipate however I shall conclude that it is not possible to say beyond reasonable doubt whom the real assassin was as there is not sufficient evidence to condemn just one culprit. The American mafia is possibly one of the most likely culprits in relation to Kennedy’s death. The mob was angered by the Kennedy family’s betrayal that had resulted from Bobby’s unyielding pursuit on the Italian crime families; this gave the mob a strong motive. The CIA’s motive to kill the president became apparent when his faith in the agency was diminished after the ill-fated Bay of Pigs invasion this monumental failure was followed by the firing of agency staff most notably CIA director Allan Dulles, although Kennedy accepted responsibility publically, behind closed doors blamed the CIA for the mishap. The ongoing conflict between JFK and the CIA grew as they became aggravated by one another, the blame privately placed on the CIA resulted in a growing anger towards Kennedy, whom in return despised the agency stating he wanted to ‘splinter the CIA into a thousand pieces and scatter it into the winds’, thus presenting a growing motive for an assassination attempt. Kennedys softer attitude on communism was also criticized by the gung-ho anti-communist CIA. Kennedys political resolution with Cuba and the Soviet Union during the Cuban missile crisis angered the agency as they did not agree with befriending such communist countries this is supported by Garrison who believed that JFK’s assassination was due to his administration seeking an accord with foreign nuclear powers that would see an end to the cold war.
