Jamal Nasim August 25, 2011. There is no hope of doing perfect research (Griffiths, 1998, p97). Do you agree? Statement at first appears to be a predicament but a thoughtful inquiry may put a seeker much at ease. There are certain queries that boggle mind once a reader is introduced with the question of perfect research. Is perfect research possible? When hope is hungry everything feeds it (Mclaughin). Can we feed hope with perfection i.e. perfect man/woman, perfect world or for that matter perfect research? We for sure can feed hope with lot of imperfections as imperfection is greatness of man (Fischer). Does imperfection deter the very essence of research? Paper intends making a mild linguistic enquiry into the key words of the topic and philosophical jargon of research to seek a plausible conclusion. Key words of the topic are hope for perfect research. Hope means to desire with expectations of obtainment (merriam-webster). It has an air of desperation about it. While research means to seek out, search closely, from re-, intensive prefix, +cercher (French word) to seek for (www.etymonline.com). Etymology reveals that term perfect research itself refutes the claim of perfection. Perfect research implies that inference cannot be explored further. This implication challenges the very essence of the word research in this continual process of seeking knowledge. An authentic research of today is likely to be based on a research of past. This ever evolving process can be illustrated with help of certain significant contributions from history. Greeks are known to be the first ones to study the static charge when an object is rubbed against fur. Edison, Allessandro Volta, Andre-Marie Ampere, Simon Ohms, each contributed to our modern electrical technology and took their lead from brilliant researches of their predecessors (Dave).
