In today’s generation people are a lot more judgmental, therefore many women believe they have imperfections and flaws. With cosmetics, this allows the women to cover up blemishes and acne that they may have, but people who prefer natural beauty could argue this
As stated in the article by Robin Henig, “Over the centuries, women have mauled and manipulated just about every body part – lips, eyes, ears, waists, skulls, foreheads, feet… (55). With certain ways women try to build their confidence level for their visual appearance, they go through a great deal of risks; consequently, severe dangers are more likely to occur, also expressed in the article. In this article, Robin Marantz Henig explains and exposes many different forms and ways woman have deliberately made changes to their bodily figures to fit in the standards of perfection in beauty. She clearly isn’t in favor of these practices from her statement in the article, “The crazed quest for beauty at any cost had led to some bizarre practices along the way” (56). Exactly, very bizarre practices that woman go by to feel better about there appearance rather then their health.

We are expected to play the role as a lady. With the media pushing that models are suppose to be rail thin to make it big on runway or as an actress, females tend to be at risk for health problems, such as anorexia and bulimia. This also causes depression, anxiety, and overall low self esteem which could in turn lead to suicide. According to the National Institute of Mental, between 5% and 10% of females in this country suffer from a variety of eating disorders. Not only is there the portrayal that women should be thin but also beautiful.
This is disappointing to me. How are little girls suppose to grow up with any self confidence when something as big as the Miss USA pageant is making them feel like their bodies need to be altered to be beautiful? In our society thick or bigger women are not acceptable. It is skinny, tall, big boobs, and a tan that is in. And if your natural body type is so far from that, well then hurry and change yourself with thousands of dollars in cosmetic surgery.

You cannot complain about not having a perfect smile when such matters are not a routine and a priority. Some specialists have come up with tips for teeth brushing that makes the time of the day you devote to oral hygiene pretty comfortable and enjoyable. First of all, in order to prevent gum lesions and bleeding, always wash your teeth with a soft toothbrush; while cleaning your teeth you may listen to a favorite song that makes your spirits bright. This is a proper way of starting the day in a good mood, and two minutes of teeth brushing won't seem that long at all. After you brush your teeth, it is also recommended to floss, particularly in the evening, thus you eliminate the risk of getting gingivitis or cavities because of the food stuck between the teeth.
Consistently, women are diminished by advertisers to pretty body parts used to sell products, a practice that perpetuates the glorification of this unreasonable ideal of beauty. Women’s bodies have not only become a huge money-maker for advertisers, businesses have picked up on women’s insecurities about their bodies and have capilatized on these insecurities. On one hand, advertisers heavily market weight-reduction programs and present young anorexic models as the paradigm of ideal beauty; on the other hand, the media floods the airwaves and magazine pages with ads for junk food. In 1996, the diet industry (as in diet foods, diet programs, diet drugs) took in over $40 billion dollars, and that number is still climbing (Facts and Figures 1). Young women seem to be especially affected by our culture’s obsession with weight and beauty.
In 2001 the Daily Star wrote an article on how the fifteen year old singer, Charlotte Church, was becoming a woman and becoming more mature by saying "She's a big girl now... looking chest swell". It’s highly inappropriate for any type of journalist to comment on the fact that a fifteen year old girl is developing a bigger chest. Magazines also focus on woman’s body shapes and how they should look. This is having a massive effect on women as they read it and the message to them is that this is the only way to look and be considered attractive. This unhealthy for women as they are always thinking about it and are constantly insecure about their appearance.
According to Stephanie Berberick, author of the article, “The Objectification of Women in Mass Media: Female Self-Image in Misogynist Culture,” written in the New York Sociologist, “In addition to the 91% of cosmetic surgeries underwent in the U.S. being performed on women, there is also a similarly disturbing trend of females with eating disorders. The National Eating Disorder Association reports that ten million American women are afflicted with Anorexia or Bulimia Nervosa.” Women have always been exploited in the media, but over the past few years, it seems to have gotten even worse. The numbers of plastic surgeries and cases of eating disorders have increased, and it is not a coincidence that the intensity of exploitation of women has increased as well. Women are being told how to act, when to wear make-up and how their bodies should look. How are women being
