Ashley Allen Professor Keith Chandler CJ 101-10/ Unit 9 Final Essay: Interview Project Proposal My interview was with Police Officer Leah Whittley who is located in Morehead, KY. Officer Whittley works at the Morehead State University. She patrols the campus during the second shift during the hours of 3 PM until 11 PM. Most of her job duties as a campus Police Officer are the same as a Police Officer who patrols the public streets. Some duties are slightly different such as working activities (games) and dorm checks. The duties that are the same include pulling people over, patrolling the streets (only the campus), as well as check and secure buildings. I know that there are many different types of officers out there. I use to see all the public officers that worked in the malls, parking lots of stores, schools and big high tech buildings but never had an interest in becoming one. I cannot see myself becoming a campus officer in the future as a permanent career but I can see myself starting out in this field as the first step in my career. The reason I would like to move further in my career and not stick with a campus officer is because I would like to be in a higher profile career in the criminal field. A: 16 weeks of academy Q: Have you ever received any types of certifications or licenses while being in the criminal field? A: Yes Q: What type of certifications and licenses have you received? A: DRE 2 weeks of classroom trial, Rapid Deployment Instructor, PTO patrol training 12 weeks of riding with another officer after coming out of the academy, breathe test certified. Would like to take rape aggression defense. Q: If you were offered to take the next step in your career, would you do so? A: No Q: Is there on emotional toll in this career from your perspective? A: Yes, because of the schedules you have to work. You can miss a lot of holidays, birthdays, etc. No 9-5 schedule with weekends off. No time with family. Repeated offenders. This can get old and make you double think. Q: If you could go back and change you career, would you do so? A: Yes. I would probably go back and do something with sports or be in the Military to travel Q: Is this career rewarding to you as far as fulfillment? A: Yes, if you sit down and really think about
