In the book “ A Message To Gacia”, there is a character named Rowan who is asked to deliver a message to General Garcia, which he does without question. How he does this can actually relate to what we should be doing in our lives and in the Marine Corps today. Have you ever been asked to do something before? For me. I’ve been asked to do many things during my Marine Corps Career, most of the time, the person asking me to do something didn’t tell me enough information to get the task done or at least that’s what I thought, in that situation, I would respond back with another question that related to the info that I needed to know in order to do the task. For example, lets say that you’ve been asked to go get all your buddies to go police call but you don’t know where any of them are. Would you just go police call by yourself? The answer would be no. Instead, you probably would have asked one of the following questions: “Do you know where my buddies are?” “Can I call them?” “Can someone else do it instead?”, or anything else along that you might have been confused about. However, Garcia was in a place that very few people knew about, which made it impossible to send him the message through a telegraph. The only way they could send him the message was by somebody bringing the message directly to Garcia himself, which Rowan was told to do. When he was told to do the task, he was not given any more information other than what to do. If that was me, then I would’ve been asking him so many questions that he would’ve just said, “You know what, I’ll go and do it myself.”. But this was not the case for Rowan.
