Name: Instructor: Course: Date: Interior Design Sustainable interior design is all about using environmental friendly materials that have a limited impact on the environment. Interior design involves common methods such as use of low pollution materials and sustainable soft materials. Designers focused on green products prefer materials that have minimal chemical content since they have low emissions. Sustainable interior design also requires recycled materials as well as materials that come from natural resources that are well managed. For instance, some designers eschew tropical hardwoods that do not come from sustainable farms. Green textiles are used in making surface furnishes, structural materials, and furniture. The practice of industrial ecology leads to sustainable development. It enhances the use of sustainable materials such as soft materials for green interior designs. Eco textiles can be natural or fabricated. They are either farmed or manufactured in the absence of chemical and other forms of human interventions making them 100% sustainable. These products are free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that are common with synthetic fibers. Green interior designers use these sustainable materials for interior flooring, furniture and soft furnishing because they are environmental friendly. In this article, I will review process of producing soft materials and their uses. Organic fibers such as cotton from organic sources are a considered a chemical free product since it does not contribute to either water or air pollution. This is a natural product that exhibiting different ways of cultivation and harvesting. Not all cotton products are eco friendly. The only product that has a sustainable characteristic is the Fair-trade certified cotton. This product passes through a series of ethical standards in its production making it a green interior design
