12 CP British Literature 15 March 2012 Innocence vs. Experience in Othello Othello and Desdemona came from different backgrounds and ways of life. In the end these differences made a hug dent and caused problems within their relationship. Desdemona loved Othello for his stories and the trials and tribulations that he had gone through during his life. That instantly attracted her to him. Othello didn’t have it easy when t came to Desdemona; her father didn’t approve which in the end added to the struggle of their relationship. But who was to think that their own friend would be working against them as well. Iago is what started it all and he would surely try his best to finish what he started. Othello told Desdemona many stories from his life, of battles, escapes, being enslaved, and other distressing tales of his youth. Desdemona first loved him out of pity and admiration for all the things he went through (Foster). Then he went on saying how Desdemona said that if Othello taught another man to tell his stories, that that would “woo” her. Thus the quote "She lov'd me for the dangers I had pass'd, and I lov'd her that she did pity the" meaning Desdemona thought Othello was quite the man all he went through, and he became her hero. Othello didn’t have it easy when it came to Desdemona; her father didn’t approve which in the end added to the struggle of their relationship. Othello basically had stolen away Desdemona from her father, and secretly married her, making an enemy of Brabantio and the hopes of his ever being accepting of their relationship no longer. What could be the cause of this jealous rage?
