Throughout the years racism has been a common problem and is happening all around us. In earlier times black people were used as slaves and did have little to no rights at all, but now discrimination between blacks and whites is illeagal and we are all supposed to have equal rights. Although the discrimination is illeagal it has happened in the judical system in the past that juries and other people have made their decision based on the defendants race. Like in the case of Tom Robinson from the book “To Kill a Mockingbird” and in the case of Stephen Lawrence the verdict seems to have been based mainly on their colors. So that leads me thinking if people of all races will ever be equal in the justice system and to the rest of the world.
It is quite obvious that Robinson was not guilty, but he is still convicted anyway. Many racist actions lead up to the trial, actually encompass the trial, and these same actions are seen after the trial. She is racist enough to think that because Atticus is defending an African American, someone that he thinks is not guilty; it will harm her deep southern roots. This skirmish
Factors that will affect a spirit of oneness Due to human nature, we cannot achieve a spirit of oneness because factors such as social class, appearance, politics and religion will still cause discrimination between people. Years of hate and discrimination have left some to wonder if we eliminate race and ethnicity as a factor, could we achieve a full spirit of oneness. As explained by Steve Olson in his essay, The End of a Race, he makes a point that if people from different social groups and ethnicities continue to integrate, race would be eliminated. With this, the Dalia Lama explains in his essay, Ethics and New Genetics, how the world needs to achieve a spirit of oneness in order to solve the world’s major internal problems. These problems that he refers to are the unknown side effects of genetically processed foods, and the cloning of animals and humans.
Stopping racism is essential for the mollification of international relations as well as the way people view each other in any country in the world. While many people don’t like to approach the subject while many others believe all our problems are fixed, racial profiling is a real problem for the people of the world and is necessary for world peace. If racial profiling is not addressed, society will become more biased and colored peoples will never achieve the equality they deserve. ACLU, the American Civil Liberties Union, explains that the US has entered a “post racial era”. Every day, people of color are targeted for searches for criminal activity and interrogations without evidence of criminal activity.
Most recently, many have opted to support the decision makers and law enforcement officers involved in the Michael Brown and Eric Garner cases. However, several still continue to condemn the final verdict of these two cases and wonder how such violent acts committed by police force have served no justice. As a nation, we have come a long way from racial discrimination and inequality; but why do we continue to witness such significant disparities within the American Justice System? Rates of incarceration between African Americans and Hispanics as opposed to Caucasians vary greatly. How many legislative experts within the U.S. justice system are African Americans compared to Whites?
Discrimination At that period mostly Black Americans were uneducated, unskilled, and unprepared to provide their own basic needs, even though Black Americans had been stated citizens with all the rights promises to every people. A member of white people is still blended with the blacks wherever they are. So even though they already free from slavery, there still a large case about discrimination. After the Civil War, a great number of blacks were finally moved to the bigger cities in the North. And their living is proved better and they have a greater freedom but still in difficult conditions.
He gives examples, such as the fact that most Blacks in the Deep South were still not able to vote and that racial violence was still occurring throughout the Nation. One of the most important ways that King got his objective to motivate across to his audience was by relating to the people and by already being a leader. If another person were to have given the exact same speech, they probably would not have succeeded in getting the same objective across. King was clearly an influential leader during the civil rights era and all Americans knew him as such. One of the skills he used most lucratively was the use of “master metaphors.” Terms such as “cash the check” of the “promissory note” (in reference to the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution), aided him in getting the point across that Blacks in America had
“The Stigma and harm caused by denying committed lesbian and gay couples the choice to marry fuels a vicious cycle.” (U.S. Study) Herdt primarily wants to inform us that denying people something they want causes not only anger, sadness and or misery, but also changes the way people think about the world that we as Americans live in today. Often times when people are denied something they want the first reaction is anger. Anger and hate are what fuel destruction; however the supporters you think you have may turn against you at any given time as shown here. “Nothing so homophobic has ever been enacted into law into this nation’s history. (Virginia backlash) Virginia a seemingly supportive state of gays turns their back and instead out right insults them.
Nonetheless, the objection set about by the deontology perspective being that “utilitarianism allows acts which ought to be forbidden” seems to have no suitable response. Nevertheless, this critique does not constitute for the theory to be discarded in favor of deontology, as I will demonstrate in this essay, deontology faces even more severe concerns. Arguments for and against this moral dilemma are bound to be plentiful and passionate. In the case of torturing the teenager to death, most people would instinctively disagree with such a notion, no matter how fruitful the outcomes may be. However, if we examine the case more closely, the idea of performing such an act becomes a little less unappealing.
When I criticize and attack myself, it is because knowing I failed makes me think about if i had tried harder then it would have made a difference. Negative self concept is often hidden from the world because we are suppose to perceive ourself with positivity in order to be accepted but that can change. Self concept is basically the beliefs and attitudes we role play in our lives. In How to Improve Your Self Concept, it mentions “your attitudes about yourself may be positive for some roles, and not so positive for others”. There will always be negative views because we do not live even near a Utopia society and we cannot please everybody.
