They are ignored and outcasted by everyone because of their background. Jem explains, "They don't belong anywhere. Colored folks won't have 'em because they're half white ; white folks won't half 'em because they're colored, so they're just in-betweeners don't belong anywhere" (Lee 161). It shouldn't matter wether they are half white and
For Atticus Finch, a white, well-known lawyer in Maycomb does not wish for any self-benefit out of what he is doing. He is chosen to protect Tom Robinson for there may be a possibility and chance for Tom in court. Atticus does nothing more than to fight for what is right and to prove that “the evil assumption-that all Negroes lie, that all Negroes are basically immoral beings, that all Negro men are not to be trusted around our women, an assumption one associates with minds of their caliber. Which, gentlemen, we know is in itself a lie” (217). As expected, a majority of the citizens in Maycomb are not impressed nor support the action being taken by Atticus.
Atticus was mocked and shunned for defending a black man yet he never retaliated. “The one thing that doesn't abide by majority rule is a person's conscience." (Atticus 114). Atticus believed that just because the town’s folk were prejudiced against the Negroes, it didn’t make it acceptable. EXPLAIN MORE(HOW IS THIS QUOTE RELEVANT TO THE PROMPT?
They also just threatened them not to vote, which was successful because it frightened them away. Being unable to vote resulted in them not able to try and persuade or influence of getting rid of segregation. Segregation is the idea based on black and white people could have separate access to services but had to be in different schools, as long as the services were equal. This brings me on to the point of segregated schools; the schools weren’t equal. ‘Separate but equal’ was used by segregationists as a way of justifying the separate education that races received and in reality it meant that the
People didn’t like what Bill had to say. They said it was a racial comment. Racism is everywhere. No one can control it. People should think about others feelings.
• Black and white people were divided by politics. • This meant that Black people were treated with less care whilst white people were cared for more. • Barriers were put into place so that Black people couldn’t vote for a new power due to their lack of education. • Tension amongst black and white people turned to hatred causing black people’s opinions and views to be irrelevant to any subject. • Southern school for blacks were poor standards which resulted in black people not being educated enough to vote or work for a living.
When your prejudice against something you stop it from growing. In the movie Remember the Titans the whites were racist to the blacks, they did not want to know each other, but the problem with this is that if they still carry this on, how can they move forward and work as a team. For example when they had a game Ray would miss a tackle on purpose because he couldn’t get over the fact that he was on a team with the Blacks. My thoughts about being prejudice are that being prejudice is useless and it does not get you anywhere. The football camp was made for blacks and whites to bond and respect each other.
3. “This did not mean that I loved black people; on the contrary, I despised them, possible because they failed to produce Rembrandt. I hated and feared the world. And this meant, not only that I thus gave the world an altogether murderous power over me, but also that in such a self-destroying limbo I could never hope to write” (448) James Baldwin had a more elegant taste for things, he wished that his fellow African Americans had created beautiful masterpieces like Rembrandt; He was dissatisfied with the world and the writings that were out there anxious and intimidated he felt he could never put his writing out there.
They would not like the fact that the prisoners are not allowed to socialize with anyone else because they do not have a chance to make any friends or even help pass the time by just hanging out with someone who is also in their position. They would argue that it is unfair to put the prisoners under so much psychological abuse, and would hate
That was because the whites were afraid that the black literacy would prove a threat to the slave system. Due to that the law was passed that black weren’t allowed to have any type of education. Life During Civil Rights Movement They mostly faced the problems of being black. Due to them being black they didn’t have many opportunities and they got rejected in everything. Also you can basically say we were here just to be neglected and be treated like nobody, and we were here for no reason.
