How and why intercultural communication is an important matter in contemporary world? The rising of globalization has made intercultural communication inevitable. Everyone in this universe is interconnected with one another. Communicating with other cultures is no longer an obscure thing. Diverse information constantly radiates this universe. The need of intercultural communication is also constantly rising in this contemporary world. The main purpose of intercultural communication is to increase understanding of culturally mediated communication phenomena. Hence, the knowledge of communicating with other cultures should be a prime skill that is thoroughly emphasized. In this contemporary era, people are able to move from one place to another at ease. This is regarding to the increasingly advanced, efficient, and effective transportation ways. This will also increase the chance of demographic change. There will be people constantly craving for shifting countries and communities experience. Some of the examples of these people are immigrants, refugees, and undocumented individuals. In order to handle these groups of people well, one must have a deep understanding of intercultural communication. Interacting with people from different cultures or ethnic groups may be a challenge. This is due to the fact that degree of strangeness is rising while degree of familiarity stays down low.
