Selected Citations from Poor Richard's Almanack “None but the well-bred man knows how to confess a fault, or acknowledge himself in an error.” and “How few there are who have courage enough to own their Faults, or resolution enough to mend them!” These quotations basically mean that most people don't like to look inside themselves and see their flaws. A well-bred and courageous person sees who they are and acknowledges it without getting discouraged or insecure. The second part means that most people go on with their lives dealing with their flaws and trying to fix them to make themselves a better person. We all know that as humans it is in our nature that we make mistakes and faults but few of us have the guts to acknowledge their faults. These quotes is relevant to me that in every fault or failure I make I don’t have to be defensive about it but accept these mistakes and to use them as stepping stone to improve myself and change for the better.
The publicity of the case and the one-sided role of the media caused a majority of people, internationally, to be biased and influenced. This impact then led to numerous problems and difficulties in being treated fairly, such as finding an impartial jury. This factor of having preconceived idea meant that the jury had already decided Lindy Chamberlain’s fate, opposing the justice being “served,” legitimately. Wiping away any chance for Lindy Chamberlain to prove her innocence creates an inevitable outcome. The Chamberlains being judged under a heavily biased jury influenced by the media, therefore shows the maltreatment of the case by the justice system and the society.
The long-term unstable society and the cold war made them have the sense of lost. They began to suspect the democracy of their country. Facing this kind of frustration, their choices were not decadence, depression, but resistance. They disbelieved their government, hated the Vietnam War, but they were still patriotic. Although the Counterculture Movement had many negative factors, such as decadent, crackers, vulgar and mysterious, which caused a bad effect on the youth, behind the decadent lifestyle, they had the motivated and raging dreams.
It is important to keep a balance of the important things in one’s life otherwise, weaknesses can be developed that shadows over a person’s natural strength to prioritize. A balance of the important things in one’s life is what allows personal success to be achieved. Successfulness is the ability to seize new opportunities and explore new paths in life. Balance is the key to success because when there is balance in one’s life there is a cut back of stress, which makes room for the ability to thrive; and a person’s ability to thrive is what carries them to their personal success. To be successful is to understand what is important to you, to recognize your weaknesses without hiding behind them, to strive for balance as well as open new doors in life.
It seems that from both stories the characters carry out very different actions, but they all have a fundamental bond, selfishness and the desire to be something they are not. It also seems that they are judged in the eyes of the narrator, as either succeeding or failing due to the way they carried themselves throughout the story, we feel the failure at the beginning of two stories, than we see some kind of becoming better people at the end. The authors uses many ironic situations in these two stories “The Necklace” and “A Good Man Is Hard To Find” to reveal how greed can affect a life. People still know the old proverb which says: "Money does not buy happiness." It has been said in many different ways over the time, but for some odd reason, mankind cannot take hold of those words of truth.
“Violence: An American Tradition” In my opinion, I believe violent ‘trends’ are often repeated in American culture because of selfishness, ignorance and fear. I mentioned selfishness as a factor because that is what drives man to show disrespect towards another. Putting yourself as priority, you are left no room for reason or understanding. This in turns leads into the lack of knowledge, which is ignorance. Ignorance and the lack of understanding a person may cause diversion between two people of two different cultures, race or religion.
Social Disorganization is a criminology theory that is present in many communities in the United States. The main reason for social disorganization is the poverty in these communities. Where there is poverty there will always be someone trying to take advantage weather it is a politician or a local gang in the community one thing is clear at some point they will assist the other one. Many people might think that none of them will have anything in common with one another but when people are thirsty for power and money they will do the unthinkable. What is Social Disorganization?
There is a saying, “Money is the root of all evil.” This is true if the money is obtained through ill-gotten ways. What happened to Tom Walker is symbolic of what can happen to any human consumed by greed. He or she will lose their soul to the obsession. There were many important themes present in this story that relate to choices we make and the consequences that comes with it. Money and material things do not truly satisfy a person's life or make a person happy.

I.M is constantly struggling with that fact that he is being blindsided left and right. His inexperience and lack of worldly knowledge gets the better of him. Ellison uses the character as a symbol of how many people did not understand what was truly happening with racism and the fact that there were many people that were in the same shoes as I.M. Ellison does a great job of showing that innocence and lack of experience will lead many to a fate that they cannot possibly
