First, China adapted to Buddhism mainly but some were Christians. However, Confucianism influenced deeply through this time. It carried out the lifestyle of obedience in families and how everyone should act to be proper and polite. This philosophy proved out to be very popular during this time. It assisted to the culture creating a more intense culture.
How does an awareness of the social and cultural context of music help to inform our understanding of music history? Understanding the social and cultural factors such as technology, production and politics all play a key role in helping people today understand the history of music. In this case, popular music is a prime example. Popular music is an extremely hard term to explain. Its often tied up to commercialism, however, not all popular music is commercially successful and this can be for a number of reasons.
Due to the fact that the Negros are brainwashed by their oppressors, they believe their inferiority to the other races to be true. The oppressor starts the mis-education of the Negro in school. School is the most powerful factor that an oppressor has because he has full control over the Negros thoughts and believes. Every race would be brainwashed and manipulated if “The thought of the inferiority is drilled into [them] in almost every class [they] enter and in almost every book [they] study” (Woodson, 2). This is not an educated person; this is a person who is trained to fit society according to the oppressor’s standards.
Now the training of men is a difficult and intricate task.”(Dubois 1) I personally think that the contamination of most blacks today is from out dated teachings, some churches, politicians and most importantly, the entertainment business. The media influence blacks to glorify street life and poverty. If we had more rappers and media outlets talking about things with substance in the community like political issues, understanding our prominence and up lifting the culture, I think that people would start to be moved or shifted into the right directions. Dubois states “School houses do not teach themselves - piles of brick and mortar and machinery do not send out men. It is the trained, living human soul, cultivated and
Should Huckleberry Finn be banned from high school curriculum? There has been and, most likely, always will be much controversy over The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn being taught in high schools all over America. This book has been under pressure ever since it was published in 1885. To some individuals, the novel is considered one of the best enduring American classics that we have today that is a very important part of our history, and to others it is thought of as a worthless piece of racist trash that only educates children that cheating, lying, stereotyping/discriminating, incorrect grammar and foul language are acceptable behaviors in society. Many people believe that the degrading and disturbing term “nigger” is used unnecessarily and superfluously throughout the novel while others say that it only brings to light the punitive reality of our history.
People against the use of Huckleberry Finn in the schools believe black children are offended by the use of the word “nigger’ anywhere, no matter what the teacher uses to justify it. Equal Protection and opportunity have also been a popular topic in the Huckleberry Finn controversy. Author, Dorothy Gillmam once said, “1st Amendment rights are crucial to a healthy society. No less crucial is the 14th Amendment and its guarantee of equal protection under the law” (Leonard 19). The use of the word “nigger” in Huckleberry Finn does not provide black students with equal protection and is in violation of their constitutional rights.
Racial Prejudice in The Raisin in the Sun Racial prejudice prior to the civil rights movement was not only the way a person thinks, instead it was America. Racial prejudice was ingrained in our laws and institutions. It is the act of judging someone due to their race, prior to having knowledge of them or their personality. There are many issues that accompany racial prejudice, but one of the main issues is that it is simply degrading; which can lead to many other issues such as fighting within the family. When Lena buys a house in Clybourne Park, at first there are mixed emotions; however, Mr. Lindner a member of the “welcoming committee” feels opposed towards the idea.
The youth involved in gangs have been introduced to the racially discriminated environment because the hatred of other towns and the people that live there, not only because they are enemies but because of their craving of being superior, being better than another race. By being discriminated people feel sad, mad, or sometimes they might not care at all depending on their educational status. “Welcome back nigger” comments like these don’t bother uneducated gang members because the careless mind, focusing only on anything gang related which is what their life revolves. “In my younger years that wouldn’t have bothered me much. But with my new direction and expanded cautiousness, it struck me hard.” Education is the answer to a better understanding of things and a better
It showed growth and change amongst a divided people. Being able to identify with what we accomplished in the past builds hope for the future. We can continue to strive to make our nation better. Debate is good because no one person is right 100% of the time. If we are to continue in process philosophy then we must never be afraid of reconciliation.
I always believe that whatever party is ruling the society the change should be gradual and effective rather than rapid and ineffective. Liberals always believe that people can improve their lives through the use of reason whereas conservatives always believe in defending status against changes. I always believe that whatever party brings in a major change which is essential to the public at that point of time should be in power for the betterment of the society. There are liberal and conservative Democrats as well as liberal and conservative Republicans. So I believe it is really essential for the younger citizens to make their decisions as to which party they are going to vote for based on the major changes bought by the parties.
