How to do “The Cup Song”: Featured in the movie Pitch Perfect The cup song is really a song called When I’m Gone by Anna Kendrick. She remade and renamed the song to be called Pitch Perfect to go along with the movie. The nickname for the song came from the instrument used to create the beat, which was actually a cup. The way you would play the beat is pretty simple once you get the hang of it. All you need to do to prepare is get a cup (or anything cylindrical) and place it upside down in front of yourself. Next you tap the bottom of the cup three times, alternating the hands you use. It can be right, left, right, or left, right, left. It’s really up to you. After that you clap your hands once and pick the cup up and put it down slightly to the right. That’s the end of the first half of the song. Now get ready for the second half. After you have set the cup down you clap your hands one time. Now this part may get a little confusing but if you remember and maintain the correct orientation of your cup you should be fine after a little practice. So the first step after the single clap is to place your right hand on the bottom of the cup, which should be facing down already, and pick it up. Once you have picked up the cup, tap it on the table then place it in your left hand right side up as if you were going to drink from it. You then put your right hand flat on the table to your left. Lastly you flip the cup upside down again and put it on the table to your right. At the end your hands should be crossed. You should keep practicing until you can switch cups with your friends in groups of two or more or play along with the song by yourself. Some people even race to see who can finish the beat faster without
