The 24 tributes are then placed in an arena and forced to fight to the death. All the while, every second of the games are televised on every television throughout the country. Katniss, along with her male tribute, Peeta Mellark, have won the games and have returned to their homes in District 12, a small coal mining community known as “The Seam.” A lot has happened since Katniss and Peeta’s victory in the arena. There is talk of revolution as they embark on their victory tour of the districts. When they arrive in District 8, the district Katniss’ ally, Rue, came from, she feels nothing but sympathy for her family and for the family of Thresh, the male tribute from District 8 who spared her life in the arena.
In this society, we never would have actual reality show where people would really die, but its basically what’s going on, people are acting as if it‘s a game. Sadly, it has an affect on my life and many others around me. In the Hunger Games, a group of tributes form a group called the Careers to gang up on the rest of the contestants. In the U.S. and other societies, they all have gangs that work together to eliminate enemies. The Careers try to kill everyone so they can steal gain extra supplies.
(“Farming in the 13 colonies”, N.D.) Most of those farms were family farms; in fact, all of them were family farms. Farming remained the country’s economic powerhouse up until the 1930’s when many of President Roosevelt’s new deal programs pushed many family farms out of business. FDR implemented programs such as the Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA). The AAA controlled the supply and price of basic crops such as corn, wheat and others. They would push supply down by offering farmers a sum of money in exchange for farmers not farming a set amount of land.
In the book the “Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins which had been made into a great movie in Hollywood. The plot of the hunger games can be describes as an event that every year the Capitol of Panem hosts an event called the Hunger Games where two "tributes" (a boy and a girl) are drafted from each of the twelve districts to be brought to an arena and fight to the death. Only one person can win. This is to remind the country not to rebel and also this is for entertainment too. This year, unfortunately, Katniss's little sister is selected for the Hunger Games, so Katniss volunteers to take her place.
Competitors are forced to kill each other in order to survive and there may only be one winner. Katniss Everdeen is the tribute competing from District 12 after stepping in for her younger sister who was chosen to compete. She is then forced into the arena and forced to fight for her survival while everyone at home watches on their televisions. My favorite character is Haymitch , Haymitch is Katniss and Peeta's trainer. He competed in The Hunger Games before and barely won.
From my own experience, I played volleyball my freshman year and we lost almost every game because we didn’t play like a team. One Friday night before a Saturday tournament we went to the coaches house for a couple of hours and hung out like a team. On Saturday we won first place in the tournament and took home metals. It is a proven fact that hanging out like a team will help the players play like a
As Grendel twists in pain he snaps his muscles, splits his bones and his arm rips off (line 495-499). Beowulf has won this battle, Grendel runs off to die alone. Beowulf hangs Grendel’s arm from the rafters. In the morning everyone celebrates Beowulf’s victory, and they feast. That night while all the warriors were asleep, Grendel’s mother comes to take her revenge for the death of her son.
The Role of the Hunger Games By Duane Collins In order to understand the role of the Hunger Games, one must look at how the Hunger Games began. At the time of the first book in this series, there had been 73 previous Hunger Games “events.” The Hunger Games was an annual event orchestrated by the Capitol to remind each of the 12 Districts of the past rebellion that had taken place many years prior, referred to as the “Dark Days” in the series. As an ongoing punishment for the rebellion, the Capitol required each District to provide one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 years old. These two were selected by lottery and were referred to as tributes. The tributes had to fight to the death in an outdoor arena controlled by the Capitol, until only one of them remained.
Our homecoming pep-rally and the float parade had begun on Friday. All week students prepared the halls with decorations to compete for first place in the homecoming competitions. Among the decorations there were categories such as best float, best gym poster, and best painted window on a downtown store. After the voting the game had begun. Following the game would result in the celebration party that ended in a complete massacre that no one from Crandon will ever forget.
Poverty is the main cause of food insecurity and child hunger (Feeding America, 2012). In the North East part of Texas that I live in I observe hungry children and families daily. I have given food and fruit to children playing outside, and some children have been too hungry to play. Poverty and child hunger is not only a social problem, but also a social inequality. According to Karl Marx social inequality exist because those in control (the wealthy) control a disproportionate share of society’s resources, and they protect and defend their advantages (Macionis, 2012).
