He ultimately succeeded in his push to transform the system when he passed Medicare and Medicaid, and increased federal funds for research. One last major contribution of President Johnson’s to this era of liberalism was his education reforms. These acts increased college enrollments, provided students the option of a federal college student loan and expanded research at universities. They also served to enhance integration, since funds were not provided for segregated schools. To conclude, President Johnson set the stage for a period of immense federal reform and a shared sense of equality for the American people – a pinnacle of liberalism.
ZINN CHAPTER 4 1. What is the thesis of this chapter? Around 1776, certain important people in the English colonies made a discovery that would prove enormously useful for the next two hundred years. They found that by creating a nation, a symbol, a legal unity called the United States, they could take over land, profits, and political power from favorites of the British Empire. In the process, they could hold back a number of potential rebellions and create a consensus of popular support for the rule of a new, privileged leadership. When we look at the American Revolution this way, it was a work of genius, and the Founding Fathers deserve the awed tribute they have received over the centuries.
From First Consul to the Emperor of the French, Napoleon took advantage of his triumph to rise in power. He once said, “Nothing has been simpler than my elevation…It is owing to the peculiarities of the time.” Napoleon was fit to revive France from the ruins it was in after the French Revolution. In this quote he acknowledges the situation the country was in and how it benefited him in terms of rising in power. He proved himself a worthy King from the very beginning by personally sening letters asking for help from religious communities and individuals asking for help with his plans. This shows from an early stage that Henry doesn't hold back. His organisation skills from the very early stages led him to being so successful in France as a whole as if he had just jumped straight in with trying to take over France at once, he wouldn't have stood a chance or gained credibility from his men and the French men. Gaining cedibility and respect was very important to Henry.
Then he added new laws to make sure that everyone was protected by the laws. This set of laws was called the Justinian Code. It was so well written that it became the basis of laws for many countries throughout the world. Emperor Justininan's reign affected the world. Justinian had a passion for the arts and for religion.
Resulting and increasing exponentially as a result of the War of 1812 (and other successful battles), the people took pride in their new found independence and boasted their feelings. They did this by believing in the Manifest Destiny ideology in which as the only Republic of their kind, it was their duty to propagate American beliefs globally (as well as continentally). The fundamental components comprising the foreign policy established by Jackson meshed with the sense of power that was blanketing the nation. People began to believe in the ideals of Manifest Destiny and the notion claimed by John Quincy Adams, “that the United States and North America were identical.” This imperialistic notion, as well as the fear of European encroachment amidst the Western Hemisphere, fueled the expansion towards Latin America. At first, it wasn’t international to hinder the freedoms of rising nations, nor to exercise surveillance over foreign power relations.

Battles such as Bunker Hill, Lexington and Concord, and Saratoga, gave hope to all the people and a sight of freedom in their eyes. There was no choice left but to create their on republican views and values that would respect all men and the Declaration of Independence was the beginning of that.
