The Roger Maris Cancer Center is a strength of MeritCare. It provides cancer treatment to people in three states, pulling patients from eastern North Dakota, northern South Dakota and western Minnesota. This has been a very successful venture increasing patient visits per month by 100.
The strengths of the Fargo Clinic add significant strength to the MeritCare merger. One of the main strengths of the clinic is that it is one of the largest multispecialty clinics in the country with 30 locations throughout North Dakota and Minnesota.
Although Sandra was not conscious and could not make choices herself, the staff tried contacting her next of kin, when they were unreachable they took matters into their own hands to help Sandra. It was not noted in the case study what happened after medical attention was given to Sandra, but it was in good faith that the doctor choose to give Sandra medical attention right away due to the severity of her wounds. Dignity often rises from one person to the next and in this case I feel all three ethical principles were
There are areas that require improvement such as in air quality; the STD incidence rate; high teen pregnancy, rising crime rate, and increase in crimes of violence. There is also a dire need within the community for disaster preparedness education on resource distribution, planning, and how to access such services in the event of a large-scale disaster. Even with educational resources available and plans in place within the county, the community is still unprepared for what to do when faced with a natural or manmade disaster and there is lack of engagement on the part of the civilian population. There is also a need for greater planning and resources devoted to assisting at-risk populations such as the elderly, disabled, and mentally challenged in the event of a disaster. More education and resources are needed in the area of disease prevention and risk-prone behaviors for the county at large.
I didn’t realize before seeing this movie how many people live without insurance. I feel that in many of Michael Moore’s he leaves out many points that do not support his views. An example of this is talking about the great healthcare that many of American’s do live with. For instance I have heard many stories about people in Canada that have had problems that were not fixed because it was not an emergency. I read an article by Cathy LeBoeuf-Schouten explaining about the shortages of Canadian healthcare facilities and how they are full.
This, combined with mood disturbances, can undermine relationships with family, friends, and co-workers. BPD disturbances also may include self-harm. [3] Without treatment, symptoms may worsen, leading (in extreme cases) to suicide attempts There is an ongoing debate between clinicians and patients worldwide regarding the term Borderline, and some suggest it be renamed, and called Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder. There is concern that the diagnosis of BPD stigmatizes people and is a discriminatory practice. It is common for those suffering from BPD and their families to feel confused by a lack of clear diagnosis, effective treatments and accurate information.
There is an increased risk of non-compliance due to: lack of insight, side effects and subjective response to medication. Lastly, a significant problem is substance use. Substance use/abuse can lead to an exacerbation of psychotic symptoms and suppression of the effect of antipsychotic medication. Barkhof et al. (2006) states that substance abuse frequently leads to conflict with family members, causing higher levels of expressed emotions, equaling a psychotic relapse.
Reflective account on: Be able to monitor care plans Q 5 Mrs S lived alone and had carers going in to assist her 3 times a day. Her health started to deteriorate and was having lots of falls when no one was there. Neighbours would sometimes go in to help her but her health continued to worsen. Her care package was increased to the maximum so she could have check calls throughout the day. It did not however stop her being taken to hospital at least once a month because of other problems she had as well as the falls.
Having been by the bedside, I have dedicated my profession to help people take care of themselves as I would myself. I believe that these people are sick and they are not equip to with the right knowledge and equipment to take care of themselves to the best of their abilities. And because they are sick, I should be helpful in comforting them during their stay. I have learned to equality for all patients. Since they are in a hospital bed, dressed in a hospital gown, I cannot judge or formulate an opinion of people’s background i.e.

A client make an appointment to see doctor, she is worry that she might have a cancer which the doctor comfort her and wouldn’t tell about this to her family or someone else. Many in our care have also got weakened immune systems and as a consequence are more susceptible to infection from the outset. We want to give the patients in our care the best treatment and quality of care possible and this would not be possible without infection control. Were we to neglect patient control their quality of life and indeed health would deteriorate, they would get sick and suffer and in extreme cases would die. This runs totally contrary to the attitudes, duties and commitments we hold so dear as healthcare workers. In this assignment I will introduce, explain and discuss one of the most topical worldwide infections in the workplace – mainly hospitals and other places of healthcare environment; MRSA.
