In 2050, the global population of people age 60 and older will grow from more than 100 percent to an estimated two billion. With the aging population growing, they must do this actively and in good health because if not they do not then we will not be able to generate the levels of economic growth we have enjoyed over the past century. The cost of disease and health challenges will grow tremendously if we do not create a more innovative and effective way to stay healthy. The agenda for the future is to continue to recognize and address the relationships between the aging, health care and the economy. With the right solutions, health care can become the most powerful driver of growth in the 21st
Health Care : The Last 10 Years Over the last ten years health care has seen many changes with one of the biggest changes being the use of technology. From personal experience I am glad to see Sutter have record levels of care and services for the poor and underserved and other benefits for the broader community. I have had Blue Cross Blue Shield for years and the payments have been outrageous and they are steady going up. As the years go by I see an improvement on making the quality of care affordable. One way they are working to make quality health care affordable is by changing how they pay for the health care services the members receive. For so many years they have paid doctors and hospitals a fee for every test, procedure or other service they perform.
According to Black (2011), “nursing research enhances the status of nursing as a profession by expanding nursing’s scientific knowledge base.” (pg. 268). "The information revolution that is transforming the present and shaping the future has made reading, understanding, and using nursing research as fundamental to professional practice as are knowledge of asepsis, application of the nursing process, and communication skills"(Blais, 2011). EBP is one of the many reasons that magnet hospitals are so successful. Magnet hospitals have brought improved patient care, patient satisfaction along with nursing satisfaction to the forefront by using systems that foster evidence based practice (Saver, 2006).

The initial urgent care centers opened in the 1970’s. Some people also referred to these centers as Doc in the Boxes. Since then this sector of the health care industry has rapidly expanded to approximately 10,000 centers. Many of these centers have been started by emergency room physicians who have responded to the public need for easy access to unscheduled medical care. Much of the growth of these centers has been fueled by the significant savings that urgent care centers provide over the rising cost of treatment in a hospital emergency room (Wikipedia).

Healthcare is a billion dollar industry and it keeps on growing, but this growth has not been without its problems. Today there are many stakeholders in the healthcare industry that complicates many things especially when trying to meet the needs of each.
The differences outweigh the similarities as many changes have taken place over the years. Most of the changes have been as a result of the advances in information technology in health care. Some of the differences include utilization of information systems such as e-mail for communication, documentation using electronic medical records (EMR), and utilization of advanced medical equipment. Two significant advances in health care information system over the last two decades has been the use of EMR and the advances in medical devices. These two advances have changed how care is being delivered in health care in general and more specifically, in skilled nursing facilities.
