To break free from such isolation, we must become educated. Education gave Alexie the competencies for achieving personal goals and fueled his determination to penetrate through the socioeconomical barrier inflicted upon his race. Education prompts awareness of our condition and provides the resources for liberation. It becomes the beacon towards realizing social independence and the discerning force that propels us to reconnect with nature and each other. In describing his relentless efforts to educate defeated Indian kids, Alexi declares, “I am trying to save our lives” (Alexie 18).
This is due to the fact that although we are a world power, we fall behind our diversified peers academically. I agree with Baldwin’s essay that every single student should have the opportunity to be in charge of their own success and be able to determine such decisions regarding their own education. His speech makes me feel inspired and determined because of how determined he is to urge teachers to extinguish the unhealthy state American education and transforming it into a forum of empowerment. Baldwin states several pieces of information regarding our society and those made me stop in my tracks for a minute and re-evaluate how our society can change and affect people. Students must be taught within themselves and not by society.
He defines propaganda as "hopeful overstatements, half truths, and downright lies, but he called it advertising.” Through advertisements, Americans are set up for disappointment. “Never was there a more outrageous or more unscrupulous or more ill-informed advertising campaign than that by which the promoters for the American colonies brought settlers here.” Advertising exploits the new, expressing optimism, and the hyperbole. If not for the promotion by the advertisers, how would the American civilization developed? This was a new world for which the advertisers took advantage of by promising: gold, silver, fountains of youth, plenty of fish, venison without limit. Fully expressing appeal to persuade men and women to act to in the advertiser wants.
He is also trying to show that he has true concern for the people, instead of simply having his own personal agenda of becoming president. The main purpose in his address is to get everyone motivated and participating in the society. His speech starts with an antithesis that says symbolizing the end as well as the beginning. This statement isn’t false, because at the end of every adventure there is another one waiting. His sentence tries to tell America that they have a new journey to embark upon.

If people believe the American dream has truly disappeared then what are they striving to reach? As history has shown, Americans have proven they can overcome many challenges and economic downfalls. So, why does the dream die now? In his article “Hiding
One line that really stood out to me is when he states, “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.” I think that this is very powerful because he’s saying that our nation isn’t reaching its goal, to be equal, and it certainly needs to. Martin Luther King is saying that people to need to wake up and realize that the world’s not supposed to be separated at all, and that every single person has as much rights as the next.
Being able to be proud of the country that your from is great, but being able to understand the constitution and the bill of rights is even better. Knowing that you have freedom of speech, living with your own religion, and being able to have the option to do whatever you dream is something you sound have pride in. People should be happy that they're able to pick there own job that they want to have and have freedom of there decisions. A person can get closer to America by knowing the beliefs, important dates in history and contributing to the country. Not only is a person contributing by working, but also students who attend school every day and learn more.
