The legal office of Laws, Rules and Infractions has been hired by Foremost Medical of Mytown, FL to inform you of your rights and provide protection insurance following the loss of 4,000 patient’s medical information. That was just the type of letter that more than 4,000 of our own HIV patients recently received. As your CEO it is my responsibility to make sure that we are in compliance with the “Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (“HIPAA”)” standards (HHS, 1996). This current breach in the HIPPA standards has put this hospital in a dire situation requiring immediate action to prevent further breaches. I have hired an outside Security consulting firm to evaluate our current policies and procedures. The results and pathways ahead are discussed in detail in the following paragraphs. Ms. Technogeek conducted an independent behind the scenes evaluation of what our weaknesses and strengths are as it pertains to our Information Technology (IT) practices and procedures. She found that there are several weaknesses that could have been exploited and caused the breach of more than 4,000 patient records and their personal information.
