What is sex in biological terms? Are gender and sex the same thing? Explain why or why not? Sex refers to biological differences, chromosomes, hormonal profiles, internal and external sex organs. Gender describes the characteristics that a society or culture delineates as masculine or feminine. So while your sex as male or female is a biological fact that is the same in any culture ,what that sex means in terms of your gender role as a 'man' or a 'woman' in society can be quite different cross culturally. How do gender and sex contribute to the concepts and constructions of masculinity and femininity? Men are often viewed as masculine and women as feminine. Although these roles can be reversed, but is often frowned upon and made fun of in modern society by most people. Although this has changed in the past few years with more people becoming accepting of masculine women and feminine men. Do our concepts of gender and sex contribute to the ways we embrace gender and sex in diversity? Definitely. My concept personally is that men should be masculine and women should be feminine. Know role so to speak. I don’t happen to agree with men acting and becoming more famine in society. I don’t think I could ever embrace a different concept of gender and sex, it’s the way I was raised. Do our concepts of gender and sex contribute to our understanding of sexual orientation? Explain. I believe it does. What we personally perceive what gender and sex should be, that is most likely going to determine our sexual orientation. My perception causes me to be what I believe is normal.
