How successful was Edward IV management of the Royal Finances? Edward IV inherited the throne from Henry VI who had left the Crown in serious debt, therefore it was up to Ed to right this by earning not only enough to run the country, but also to pay back the debt. Furthermore a medieval king was expected to “live of their own” which meant that they should be able to afford the running of the country through their own lands and not need to ask parliament for tax which leads onto my next point in which the king should not rely on Parliamentary grants too much. I think that to a large extent, Ed was successful in managing the Royal Finances because I think that he fulfilled all of the criteria. Firstly, he was successful in managing the royal finances by innovatively using the Royal Chamber to efficiently manage the royal income.
Dr. John Ziker in Chapter six of “Peoples of the Tundra” (2002) begins to explain the difference of property rights between societies. The author, Dr. Ziker explains how some societies have written titles symbolizing an individual’s right to sell land, and how in other societies such as kin groups, an individual has to go through others to negotiate the land. In a kin group, property negotiating is a less formal affair. After the breakup of the Soviet Union, Dolgan and Nganasan have gone back to their informal ways by relying on the land for survival. After communism disappeared, the Dolgan and Nganasan began to use the land in three ways.
Russia was seen as having a feudal system where the working class (peasants) were holding up everyone above them and retaining nothing. The response from the Tsar was the emancipation in 1861. Nicholas was quoted saying to nobles of Russia that “the existing condition of owning souls cannot remained unchanged. It is better to begin to destroy serfdom from above than to wait until that time when it begins to destroy itself from below”. Although there were a few cases of the Tsar redistributing land to the peasants Riasanovsky claims that the “Fundamental inequality and widespread destitution could not be remedied by a re-division of the peasants inadequate land” This further brings the idea of Marxism into Russia which is discussed later.
Although, Solon’s laws did not establish a democracy, they were a crucial step towards Athenian democracy. Within this, Solon also created a social hierarchy based on agriculture, this allowed each class to participate in the government but also have their own obligation for taxes, contributions and other benefits. The classes included: the Pentakosiomedimnoi (the most powerful landowning class), the Hippies (consists of government officials), then the Zeguital (the lower officials in the government) and lastly, Thetes (owned no land, had little or no influence within the government) (4). Solons’ laws allowed the citizens to have more rights with their government and to be able to stabilize within their social hierarchy’s. Solons contributions consisted of moderate rearrangement rather then an entire revolutionary transfer of political power.

Additionally, living-wage laws allow workers more time to spend with their families. On the other hand, Richard Berman states that living-wage laws are ineffective in helping the working poor because higher-skilled workers would strive for jobs once occupied only by low-skilled workers. Although living-wage laws might not eradicate poverty, they are necessary to protect the workers from being underpaid. In addition, they would keep the working poor from government assistance and they would create a stronger sense of family unity in working class neighborhoods. Not only would living-wage laws protect workers from being underpaid and
Compare and Contrast Essay Decline of the Han vs. Decline of the Roman Empire The collapse of the Han and the Roman Empires were both due to internal conflicts within the government and among their people. Both empires started to fall apart as disorganization and lack of a central government began to influence the whole empire. Political chaos led to the breakdown of the economy which spread to other things, and the spread of new religions came too late to save the crumbling empires from the destruction of themselves. The downfall of both civilizations began as their political rulers’ superiority became so disorganized and chaotic that everything just started to fall apart. Citizens began to revolt and in the Han dynasty in 220 C.E., the emperor was rebelled against among middle and lower class peasants and was eventually disposed of.
