Freedom of Speech on the Internet Nathan Wood English 101 May 3, 2010 For many years now there have been many controversies about and there are always questions being raised about the freedom of speech. The freedom of speech, particularly on the internet, has been a very controversial topic. One of the main problems is that parents do not want their kids to be exposed to some of the things on the internet. Of course, language has a huge part in this issue. On the other hand, the internet is the best way to get your voice to be heard. It would also be impossible to get rid of all the bad things that kids are exposed to off of the internet. Freedom is the basis in which this country was founded on so obviously it is extremely important to keep it. There are always going to be issues about the freedom of speech on the internet, but there are many positive things about it. Since it is possible for anyone to make a website, or just post comments anywhere, it is a great way to let your voice be heard. “Anything that anybody wishes to say can be heard by anyone else with access to the Internet, and this world-wide community is as large and diverse as humanity itself.” For instance, if someone wanted to share information or an opinion on the President, then he or she should do it over the internet. With search engines such as Google, it is extremely easy to find anything on the internet. One of the most common ways to share things is over YouTube. Millions of people are on this website daily just searching things and if you have a video up there sharing your voice, it’ll be heard. The internet is so vast and commonly used that it would be impossible to ban all of the inappropriate things on there. “The Internet is a common area, a public space like any village square, except that it is the largest common area that has ever existed.” With this is
