A formativie assessment is a variety of informal and formal assessments measures that are used by teachers during the learning process in order to adapt teaching and learning activities to improve a child’s attainment in school, it is designed to give pupils feedback in order to improve in their learning and help a pupil understand what is expected of them in relation to their educational success and give ideas as to how to develop their work. In order for formative assessment to be effective, there must be a whole school approach which includes teachers in each year group assessing with subject leaders to ensure consistency within year groups in order to maintain high individual pupil progress. Informal/Formative teacher assessments are carried out by teachers throughout the course of their teaching by using assessment
Formative Assessment in tracking learner progress Formative assessment (assessment for learning) is engaged during a course or programme. This is the type of assessment used and it allows teachers to adjust targets and objectives to suit the student until they develop skills and become more confident. Formative assessment is usually informal (Formative informal) and can take place at any time during the teaching and learning process. Feedback from formative assessment will be beneficial to both student and teacher as it not only allows the student to recognize their success and look at areas for development but it allows the teacher to evaluate the effectiveness of their teaching and look to improve on future sessions. Formative assessment is often seen as being motivational as it can be seen as a review rather than an assessment.

As a teaching assistant you will contribute with the teachers to planning, delivery and review of learning activities. As a teaching assistant time should be made to discuss and review pupils’ work with teachers, this can be formal or informal. It means that students can take responsibility for some of their own progression. Students can ask themselves what am I learning and how can I do it better. Giving students constructive feedback will allow them to recognise how they can progress and achieve the next step in their learning. Having confidence that all students can improve. Both the teacher and student are involved in the reviewing process and can reflect on the assessment information.

There are two different types of assessment, assessment for learning and assessment of learning. Assessment for learning is used to inform and guide instruction as well as diagnosis any misconceptions a student may have. Assessment of learning is used after the learning has already occurred to determine the level of understanding the student has achieved and to see if they have mastery of the standard. Within this component teachers can indicate which type of assessment they will use to guide instruction whether it be a pencil/paper test or assessing students using 21st century skills. Differentiation: When providing differentiation in the classroom the teachers provide instruction to meet or exceed each individual student.
Teachers need direction in order to meet academic proficiencies and to keep student’s interest (Laureate Education, Inc., 2010). After exploring several learning theories and strategies, my own teaching practices are most often modeled by several strategies and learning theories. The Constructivism Theory resonates in some of the techniques I am using in the classroom. Reflecting on student activities and the design my lessons ; I find students are most often engaged in learning activities that are student driven and lead to students constructing their own conclusions. Student often work at stations and learn through team building and planned movement.
Students are taught to develop their skills through specific techniques. They are encouraged to review and ask questions during tutoring sessions based on the teacher’s instruction. Students generate questions and draw conclusions through reciprocal peer interaction. The reinforcement they receive while working in groups motivates learning. These sessions create a classroom where student pairs can work on different levels and on different types of problems (i.e., word problems or counting) or at varying reading levels.
It is through these theories that we will gain more insight into the issues associated with school system-wide leadership (Knapp, et al, 2008, p. 35). This study will use these learning theories to illuminate the reasoning for educational reform, and inform the research obtained from the focus groups and interviews. These theories are vital to the study, because they are the basis for change and adaptability of people within professional environments. Organizational change refers to the learning of a collective, and how students
