Failures Are Stepping Stones The sweetest apple always grows on the top of the tree, only the bravest people deserve it. Everyone desires success, but not everyone achieves his goals. Therefore, there are far more failures than successes out there in the world. Indeed, failure is part of our life. Although people have trying their best to avoid failures, no one has ever escaped from failing. What is the secret recipe for being successful? Only people who learn and grow from failures get to taste the sweetness of success. If we can manage the imperfections in our lives, they will become the stepping stones on our paths to success. Different people have different understand of how to manage failures and successes. In the essay “Failures and Success” Chris Brogan says “every bit of success I’ve had has come through failing” (Brogan 1) Brogan believes one has to fail to become successful. Similarly, Paul Logan in the essay “Zero” explains “Even failure, as painful as it is, doesn’t have to be an ending.” (Logan4) As Brogan’s conviction, Logan also emphasize that the effect of dealing with failures will make a demarcation between failures and success. However, in the essay “Superman and me” Sherman Alexie says “I refused to fail. I was smart. I was arrogant. I was lucky.”(Alexie6)He believes people have to believe in themselves to be successful; they are bound to fail when people give up on themselves. People who expect success have to surmount the fear of being failing. People inherently fear failure, but what is failure? Let’s check the dictionary, “failure means nonperformance of something due, required, or expected.” It sounds all negative, however, the dictionary won’t tell people failure is the best teacher or failure is a beautiful thing.
