Paper towel absorbtion Is Bounty more absorbent than the store equivalent brands of paper towels? Bounty, who is manufactured by Proctor and Gamble, claims their product to be 2x more absorbent versus the leading ordinary brand towel sized 11”x 10.4”. I would like to scientifically check their claims on Bounty against Targets equivalent store brand. Target brand claims on the packaging to be just as absorbent as the Bounty brand. Both towels are the same measurement of 11” x 10.4” and are both 2ply. I am a mother of 3 young small boys and cleanliness and dealing with spills is a constant struggle. I am testing for the most efficient way to clean up liquid messes between the leading brand and a store brand generic. I am testing to prove if the brand name Bounty is more absorbent than the Target brand. I reviewed similar projects and I have found more research to support absorption rates and other variables to be tested. I found claims that Bounty brand will absorb the most liquid because their paper towels are 20% more absorbent than other paper towels. This research states the paper towels are made with 2 ply paper. Bounty towels have creping which is a process that fiber to fiber bonds are split up. The towels also contain embossing. Embossing is the process of changing the surface of the paper towel by being pressed from a flat surface to a raised shaped surface to allow for liquids to absorb easily into the fibers (Samantha P., 2000). From a different and similar study on paper towel absorption, I have found a different variable. The variable is the human variable of preference. “We are testing 1 reason why people choose a certain brand based off its absorbency factor. When a consumer buys paper towels, they are not just looking for absorbency. Price, softness, availability and the number of sheets on a roll and strength are all important
