Joe * Joe shows Janie that he loves her in many different ways. * Joe takes Janie from Logan and she runs away and lives with Joe. * Joe loves Janie but uses her in a way for status/reputation for himself because of how beautiful she was to the men. * Joe was very impulsive toward Janie and wanted to control everything she did he was selfish and wanted Janie all to himself and he only let Janie have limited freedom. * Janie has love for Joe but not so much after the year’s progress because of domestic abuse Joe does toward Janie to better himself and his status/reputation.
His parents actions when he was young left him with the idea that love and relationships are horrible and all it does is hurt us, he felt as if it’s not worth going through the pain and stress. He only saw the bad sides of love, and because of that, he kept himself from everyone; he never realised the good sides of love until later on in his life. Another main contrast between the two poems, is guilt. In both poems the poets both feel guilt, but in different ways. Harrison, who had a good and loving family life, felt guilty about the way he treated his father when mourning.
Hester consoled him and tried to make him feel better. Hester also realized she still loved Dimmesdale and begged for his forgiveness because of her never saying he was her lover. Hester was now conscious of the deep injury for which she was responsible to this unhappy man, because he let him lie for so many years, or just for a single moment. Which was the real reason why Dimmesdale’s health kept getting worse. He felt guilty that he didn’t confess he was the other adulterer when Hester was standing on the scaffold seven years earlier while getting
Ben is one of the main characters in this story. He is the son of a racist mum who does not let him play with his brown neighbour Daisy. He is a caring character with a nice personality he does not judge anybody just because of their race. I feel sympathy for him because he in between his mother who is racist and wrong and Daisy who is a sweet brown girl who just wants to play with him, Ben does not know which one to choose as if he chooses his mum he will hurt Daisy and if he chooses Daisy his mum would not be happy at all. He is in an awkward position in this short story.
It was not external, but lay deep within him. It was the fear of himself, lest he should be found to resemble his father. Even as a little boy he had resented his father’s failure and weakness, and even now he still remembered how he had suffered when a playmate had told him that his father was agbala. That was how Okonkwo first came to know that agbala was not only another name for a woman, it could also mean a man who had taken to title. And so Okonkwo was ruled by one passion – to hate everything that his father Unoka had loved.
His biggest strike against him is that he is too controlling and only sees rolls from his viewpoint. His agent, George Fields, explained that no one will hire him because of his bad reputation. In his personal life, Michael is a bit of a jerk that treats women poorly, especially his long term friend and fellow actor Sandy Lester, a woman who already has self-esteem issues.
After he apologizes to her for saying he didn’t like her husband Claude reflects on Mrs. Meitner. Claude says he didn’t hate her husband because he made Mrs. Meitner happy but he hated Hitler for taking away her happiness. This shows how empathetic Claude was at such a young age. Even though he did not completely want to give up on the idea of marrying Mrs. Meitner he wanted her to be happy and “let her go.” This shows how Claude has traits that no other kid had his age. By seeing past Claude Brown’s bad boy ways of robbing, drug use and thuggish persona you see very grown up attitude of a kid not even in high school.
Despite him being the big disgrace of the town the years which he made girls suffer wasn’t enough. When the Mama Farida warned him, “Poor fool, yuh married B’er Gaulin,” but he wanted to be an idiot refusing to take her seriously. However, in his defense he loved this girl for many years, because of this when it came to hurting her he couldn’t bare the thought not to mention if he slaughtered her. Sad to say, his wife and
He dislikes ackly for the simple reason that he has bad hygiene and it annoys Holden. This small annoyance is something that most people would be able to get over but Holden has a habit of dwelling on these minor problems he has with everybody and not being able to get over them. With Stadlater just the fact that he took Jane out on a date and Holden has a secret crush on her, even though he hasn't seen her in years and there is no way for Stadlater to know that. Holden insists on disliking him for that small
Although Edna has taken control of her own life, she is still not happy with her life because of the many different types of love she has experienced. Alcee loves her but she only uses him as an affair while her husband is doing business. Robert truly loves her, and she felt the same way about him, but he can’t have her, because her husband already owns her. Edna doesn’t want to be owned by anyone, but no matter how many times she rebels and takes control of things, men still think of her as a possession. Edna ends her life in search for herself, and her
