Effectiveness of Current Technology Communication is essential in the criminal justice system and law enforcement professionals must stay abreast of the latest technologies that affect the way he or she performs their job. Current technology allows law enforcement agencies to communicate with one another on a local, state, and federal level. Because there exists specialized databases such as the Automated Fingerprint Identification System, the National Crime Information Center, and others criminals are more easily tracked and apprehended. In this information age, law enforcement is better equipped to identify criminals, share information with other agencies, and use current technology to assist with solving crimes. The State of North Carolina has taken the first steps to ensure law enforcement agencies have the tools needed to aid and assist them in identifying, apprehending, and convicting known criminals.
