The Cuban missile crisis was one of the most tense periods of the cold war, with World War 3 threatening to break out some very tough decision needed to be made by the USA and the USSR. With the USSR setting up nuclear weapons in Cuba that could reach the white house in 5 minutes created a huge threat to the USA, of which were left to make some choices that have the nations fate in their hands. They originally set out to create a blockade of all Russian ships coming into Cuba. From there negotiations were made that the USSR would agree to remove their weapons. This is all said to have gone down in thirteen days of which a dramatised movie was created title “thirteen days”, which tries to recreate the tension of the Cuba Missile crisis.

Guantanamo Bay The issue of keeping Guantanamo Bay open or closed is one worth looking at. Guantanamo has come under scrutiny since its conception in January of 2002 because of alleged violations of Habeas Corpus, which requires due process to anyone held in a United States prison. However, the Bush administration defined the prisoners as enemy combatants, which allowed them to be detained until the end of hostilities. Detaining international citizens with these justifications sheds light on gray areas in an otherwise black and white US judicial system. Not only that, the distribution of resources across social classes of the populations would also result in the abandonment of many rural communities and establishment of inefficient and harmful method of resource consumption.

While not a Western nation, Japan invaded China and brought what Mao considered Western systems: imperialism, colonialism, and capitalism. The historical context in which these two leaders fought an invading power was, of course, a national issue, independent of one another. However, what they fought against and the goals they made for their national struggles were global and holistic.
Human rights in the People's Republic of China are a matter of dispute between the Chinese government and other countries and NGOs. Organizations such as the U.S State Department, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch have accused the Chinese government of restricting the freedoms of Speech , movement and religion and of its citizens. The Chinese government argues for a wider definition of human rights, to include economic and social as well as political rights, all in relation to national culture and the level of development of the country. In this regard, China claims that human rights are being improved. China also repeated many times that its constitution specifies not only citizenship rights but also the “Four cardinal principles“ in legal respect the "Four Cardinal Principles" are higher than citizenship rights, meaning there was legal base when China arrested people who wanted to overthrow these principles.
The arms race began in 1945 when the US dropped their atomic bomb on Japan. Not only did this demonstrate the power of the USA but was the catalyst for an age of rapid weapon development, the arms race. This ended with the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1963, an event that bought the superpowers dangerously close nuclear war. A number of factors other than the accumulating advancements in weaponry lead to the Cuban missile crisis, the personalities of the leaders and the national interests of each country all effected how the arms race developed, leading to the inevitable situation where the USA and USSR were left hovering over the trigger. The main aspect that lead to the Cuban missile crisis was the arms development between 1945-1963.
