In the current economy, which is not a good one, many ethical or moral encounters occur between personal character and professional character. Business ethics and moral issues are dealt with daily; more so now than in the past. The concept of these issues can take a different meaning depending on whom you talk to. Ethics and moral issues “should” be included in the organizational behavior of the company, however many times they are not. Ethics and morals have a position in the business world because both terms influence each other. Many people often ask what are the similarities and differences between ethical and moral issues. When discussing ethics and moral issues, they seem to go hand-in-hand and are sometimes thought as being synonyms. They have many similarities and few differences. Morals define personal character, whereas ethics stress a social system in which those morals are applied. In other words, ethics point to standards or codes of behavior expected by the group to which the individual belongs (Kayne, 2011). For example, a defense lawyer’s moral code will likely find rape or murder disgusting and wrong. On the flipside, the ethical demand says the accused be defended passionately even when the lawyer knows they are guilty and may have a chance of being found innocent and releases from all charges. There is a subtle difference between ethics and morals and really only differs between population and geographically. For many people, they question if personal and business ethics are different. Business ethics must be a part of the equation for making conscious decisions on issues such as harassment, employee relations, discrimination, etc. These ethical rules should be the standard behavior and not partially used here and there.
