Who are Crack babies? The term crack came alone with the babies who were born to mothers who use cocaine during their pregnancy. It was believed that the damage caused by cocaine is permanent. Most of these children were not active as a normal child. They were unable to pay attention to their school work. It was told that to identify a crack baby would be easy as they look look moodier, sicker and who are less social than other infants. Even though White Americans use twice the amount of cocaine than African American, mostly the Crack image referred to the African Americans. In fact the professor rephrased “ I have never seen an article or any news about White Crack babies”. The image of Crack babies in the mind of people are only with regards to those babies of the African American crack users. However the reason studies and Researches showed that using cocaine cause less harm to the fetus. According to Dr. Chasnoff’s study it was shown that not only drugs like Cocaine can cause harm but Alcohol as well as tobacco has the similar effect. Poor nutrition, Sexually transmitted diseases and lack of medical care (high health care bills) could also result in harming the fetus.…show more content…
This is because in every American mind, “the imaginary crack baby epidemic remains real”. In late 19th Century reports were published condemning the work of American Medical Association. People weren’t ready to accept the research results. They believed Cocaine using African American caused these problems.
