It was founded in 1979 and is a privately employee owned company. The leadership team of Epic includes: clinicians, developers, and process experts, which are people highly trained and very knowledgeable in the healthcare field. It is made for mid size and large Healthcare facilities including private physicians’ offices, hospital as well as integrated healthcare organizations. Epic Software is easy to use, highly interoperable through industry standards and is able to share information securely through Care Everywhere and the Lucy PHR. Epic provides many different services, and has many great features and qualities, but at the same time has its disadvantages. According to the Epic.com website they state “Epic is highly rated by clinical and technical, and is 100% of HIMSS analytics stage 7 ambulatory practices use Epic” (Epic Ambulatory EMR, 2013). Epic currently houses two hundred ninety seven customers and exchanges over 1.25 million customers in Care Everywhere.
