ElizabThe Leaving: Elizabeth’s a strong character (Story by Budge Wilson) My impression after reading this story was that Elizabeth is a strong character. Many people know Elizabeth as a very strict and plain woman, but, having many strong qualities, it changes the character of Elizabeth rather strong than strict. Being a strong character, does not necessarily mean to have a sufficient amount of strength, but to have more leadership skills, bravery, and independence. Firstly, the physical appearance of Elizabeth, and the way she shows her body language, is a true example of a strong character. According to this quote from the leaving. “Ma was a tall, rangy woman, she had a strong handsome face with high cheekbones and a good firm chin line” (Sylvia, “The Leaving”). Moreover, this is also a sign of patience, and to make someone calm, which most people call it as inner strength. For example, if a person is really angry, the person acts if as the cause of his/hers anger is ineffective and gives a good impression that he/she is strong enough to take things personally. In addition, Elizabeth expresses strength in leadership skills and by standing up for herself, even if the person big or stronger, it portraits a huger role in being a strong character. For example, if a child gets bullied at school. Now the bully is big and strong and everyone is terrified. But when the child stands up for everyone, the child suddenly becomes a hero, and that most definitely shows a strong character. Elizabeth also shows leadership skills in this quote/statement, -She moved to the center of the room and faced him, “My name,” she began, and faltered. She cleared her throat and ran her tongue over her lower lip. “My name,” she repeated, this time more steadily, “is Elizabeth”-(Elizabeth, “The Leaving”) Clearly, Elizabeth shows many signs and a good role model for a strong character.
