The Future of America is in Education Education is receiving higher importance all over the world because it is seen these days as the best way for countries to be well developed and to be able to create and maintain strong economies. The countries that focus on educating their citizens are more likely to be the countries that are doing well economically and in caring for all of the people. My country realized this many years ago and is sending students all over the world to study at little or no cost to their families. However, now in the United States, the majority of universities are increasing tuition costs that will lead to many students being excluded from getting a good education and to massive damage to the economic well-being of people in the country. Raising tuition levels to higher levels negatively affects too many students who will have no chance to achieve the American dream of a better life economically and mentally in their lives in the United States. The ability to afford to pay for an education is a huge problem these days in the U.S., especially for university education. Universities are being cut from the amount of support given to them by the government and they are raising the tuition cost for the students, without careful consideration of the future impact on a lot of students. In Washington state for example, “Tuition is skyrocketing because the Legislature has dramatically cut funding to higher education as state revenue has fallen during the economic downturn,” (Long 2011). Government is being shortsighted in making big cuts to higher education because this limits the future prospects of people who could one day be good taxpayers and contributors to society.
