This made the Romans prone to injuries and “because they have no armor, think about running and not fighting” (Document B). Because of the loss of troops from the loss of armour, the Roman army’s numbers diminished. No soldiers were drafted since many groups were exempted from joining the army. This lessened the defences and security of Rome, and Rome became weaker. Another primary reason of Rome’s decline was a series of foreign invasions.
Whatever the cause of the fallen Empire of Rome, many people have been comparing it to the recent decline of the US on the world stage, which also has many of its own causes. One reasonable cause of the Roman Empire is its military/army. Many people say that the army got out of hand due to lowering of standards of discipline. When the disciplinary standards of the army began to decline, so did the empire. The reason for this is because the army couldn’t defend the empire.
The only reason the military was too large and unsupported was because many of the taxpayers died of the plague. The German barbarians, which were the ones that eventually burned Rome to the ground, didn’t support brothels, public baths, and drank ale made with boiled water. They also lived in more spread out housing This would have made them far less susceptible to plague. When they invaded Rome, they would have been far stronger, whereas the Romans would be weak and small, ripe for the picking. Even though the Gothic tribes were mistreated, doesn’t meant they would have rebelled enough to cause the Fall of Rome.
Also, many experts say that it fell because of the lack of heart the people had to the Empire, the rise of Christianity, it was too immense to govern and protect, the decline of the economy and jobs, the army being made up of mostly foreigners, and outside invaders. Thus, one can say that the Empire collapsed more internally than externally. The first reason why the Western Roman Empire fell was because the people that lived in it had a lack of heart in the Empire. People didn’t believe the Empire was worth saving anymore. As Strayer, Gatzke, and Harbison state in their textbook The Course of Civilization states “The basic trouble was that very few inhabitants of the empire believed that the old civilization was worth saving… the overwhelming majority of the population had been systematically excluded from political responsibilities.
The roman empire the economy system got weak. The economy system got weak because of the tribes and pirates outside of the empire disrupting the trade. Trying to expand to their limit, the romans had less of new sources like silver and gold. Extremely desperate for the new sources the government raised all of the taxes. They started to cheat people out of their silver and gold by putting less and less of silver and gold in their metal.
Rome had started Lack of stability and high power but a weak government. As the empire was getting weak invasions stared to happen. This problem helps explain why Rome “fell” because as the government was growing weak the empire was slowly falling down. Reason two is Military issues. The purpose of having a Military is to protect a country/ nation and
From then on party leaders were erratic and kept changing, meaning there was little stability in the Conservative party, which made them vulnerable to attack. After Peel was beaten in the Corn Laws crisis, many strong leader figures left with him such as Gladstone. This meant the party was left with the back bench aristocracy who were not all that interested in the wellbeing of the party and let it deteriorate. This was not at all the only problem that the conservatives faced. The truth was that their policies simply did not appeal to the majority of the voting population any more.
Becoming a governor in his region of Rome wasn’t good enough, he wanted to be crowned king and serve as a dictator for life, something that Rome didn’t have for five hundred years. His need for absolute power, to become greedy and to bring Rome under Monarchy corrupted him and altered his thinking. Instead of thinking about the Roman people, he was thinking about himself, and that made him a bad leader. Another reason that he wasn’t a good leader was that he was weak. Although he appeared to be strong to the commoners, he was seen as weak to his own Senate members, especially Cassius.
The fall of Rome started off with the government, since the empire was too large, it was hard for them to govern effectively. Then the military corrupted, they had non-Roman soldiers, and generals that were not very honest. Since the government did not have enough money to pay the
The 18th amendment contributed to the rise of organized crime because it created a lot of underground business. From killings to people living in poverty, that’s what the prohibition caused. If people really thought that prohibiting alcohol to be sold leally were going to help the way that people lived during this time, they were wrong. A lot of people were against the law, they argued that if they banned alcohol legal businesses were going to go broke and that was not going to help the economy get better. But alcohol was not the only thing breaking families apart they said, after the war, soldiers would come home and find themselves in a whole, struggling to find jobs.
