Driving under the influence shouldn’t even be considered because you’re not only putting your life at risk but you are risking the lives of others. Today, one in three people will be involved in an alcohol-related crash in their lifetime. Another factor to consider when refraining from driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is the consequences made by the law. One thing is for sure that getting convicted of driving under the influence will definitely cost a pretty penny even for your first offense.

Despite efforts to deter drunk driving, alcohol- related traffic fatalities still pose a grave and dangerous problem. . Some people drink alcohol for social reasons, for others it is way of life. Many people drink alcohol to avoid the problems in their lives, or to loosen up so that they feel more relaxed or happy when they party. For some it helps them temporarily forget their worries.
There are many laws out there that ban texting and drinking while driving to keep people from harm’s way but there are so few people who actually obey the laws. Research shows that drinking while driving & texting while driving are equally harmful because they both impair the driver’s vision, the driver’s reaction time, & the driver’s concentration & vigilance, all skills needed to prevent millions of accidents, deaths, & injuries every year. There’s ample evidence that shows drunk driving fatalities have definitely decreased in the last 40 yrs. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration provides us with some interesting information, which I have converted into a line graph. My visual aid shows the fast decrease in drunk driving fatalities between 1970 & 2012.
The state of Florida is in need of a law that prevents drivers from texting and driving. As the state of Florida we are considered the 46th state to have received this law. Texting and driving is considered illegal in the state of Florida because it’s better to have safe drivers that distracted drivers who can put others at risk. Yes the act of texting and driving is illegal but we don’t do too much to actually stop drivers from still doing breaking this law. In early October of 2013 Florida was alongside the rest of the states that were prohibiting texting while driving.
Making it known that there is a binge drinking problem on college campuses, is one of the most important ways to show the public. Showing the side effects that binge drinking can have on someone’s undeveloped brain and the way that someone’s brain works will help people understand how big of a problem binge drinking really is. The last and most important is lowering the drinking age, so that students do not feel the need to drink as much as they can in a shorter amount of time. Many argue that doing this will cause more highway accidents, but in this day in time, many students are too drunk to even get into a car let alone drive it. There is a huge problem across the Nation that many need to be aware of so that we the public can make a change for the younger generation of America; this problem is binge drinking.
The correlation principle states if two or more different people attempt, or succeed in an act, but their outcomes are clearly very different, those people should not all be punished in the same way. Husak's argument using the correlation principle was the most persuasive part of his article. The correlation principle is very helpful in proving that drunk driving is not as serious of an offense as many people make it out to be. His argument using the principle is also very easy to understand and agree with since it does correlate well with the people who are getting in trouble for drinking and driving by bringing up the fact that not everyone is the same, even though the government treats everyone similarly. Different people tolerate alcohol in different ways.
