The Dream Job Have you ever dreamed of working from home? I used to want to be an astronaut. Little did I know my dream job involved a computer, telephone and my living room couch. This phenomenon is known as telecommuting in which people who have certain office equipment such as computer, facsimile machine, telephone etc., may work at home by the agreement with their employers. I work from home for United Health Care. It has been a blessing in so many ways. Telecommuting provides more time to spend with family, it saves money and eliminates the problems caused when driving to work. Through technological developments, people are now able to work and earn income in their houses as well. Telecommuting may be the movement of the future, which will allow more people to work away from the office. Many people see telecommuting as a way to be close to home or allow them to be connected to their organization while working abroad. While telecommuting might work for some people, telecommuting is not for everyone. There are disadvantages; as well advantages to telecommuting which most people do not take into account. When considering telecommuting, the advantages fall for both employer and employee Primarily, telecommuters enjoy the advantage of taking care of both their children and houses themselves. Thus, they become able to save money through not recruiting a housekeeper and babysitter. Also some people deliver their elderly relatives to some caregiving agencies or houses. Telecommuting gives them the chance to look after their elderly parents/grandparents themselves. Telecommuting for me has been a dream; just in the fact there is more time spent with my children. There is no longer a need for the morning rush. My children are able to sleep in. There is no longer a need to waste that hour in the morning getting ready.
