Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Hero Dr. Martin Luther King was intelligent, dedicated, charismatic, and religious. “He was a prominent leader in African American Civil rights. “Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was one of the most astonishing men of the 20th century. He was born on January 15, 1929. His father was a faithful Baptist preacher and his mother was a school teacher. He entered college when he was only and graduated seven years later with a Ph. D in Theology. Dr. King was one of the most heroic and respected leaders of the Civil Rights Movement. He sacrificed his life for the dream blacks have equal rights as the white people.…show more content…
“Martin decided to go to Birmingham and confront the whites with his marches, but before it was over he was put in jail and that is where he wrote “Letter from Birmingham Jail. In that letter he explained why he refused to stop the march. “You want me to stop marching, make justice a reality,” he wrote. “I’m tired of the marching should have been mine at birth” (McAdam, Bange 43). Martin felt that going to Birmingham and dealing with the whites would change the segregation and everyone would have equal rights. Unfortunately since he refused to stop his protest he was put in jail. There he wrote his letter which said the following: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Negroes have experienced grossly unjust treatment in the courts. There can be no gain saying the fact that racial injustice engulfs this community” (King 205). Blacks have been judge by their color and not by their actions so for any insignificant problem, they would be put in jail.
