There are so many reasons as to which juveniles can talk themselves into joining gangs. Reasons having to do with family problems or even involvement in the gangs, to friends being there, making money fast and having a sense of “security” when with his or her gang members. One of the main reasons why kids partake in gang activity is because of a neglected feeling from their family. “If young people aren’t getting positive attention from parents, joining a gang certainly provides lots of negative attention. Youth who are angry at a parent may join a gang to shock or be defiant toward the parent”.

Younger individuals in ghettos and lower classes see that they’re limited to things they could do, so gang membership is like a family, place to belong, and a strong sense of power. Drinking Age The fashion of the world is changing, and in the same way the people of the world are also changing. The changing fashion has affected many children. Now-a-days children start to drink from the age of 14 or may be less than that. There is always an issue about the age of drinking, as nobody follows the rules of drinking age. Youth crime can be a result of fear, peer pressure, boredom, exclusion from the community, a sense of anomie, socialisation and anti-social behaviour, these just being a few reasons for youth crime being committed. Parents or guardians working long hours offers more of an opportunity for children to be involved in crime without anybody watching over them. Does Participation in Sports Keep Teens Out of Trouble? At some point every teen has had trouble at school or at home and needs an escape. Unfortunately, many teens turn to the wrong source to get their remiss. Youths seek comfort from those who welcome them, but sometimes they end up turning to street gangs or even just bad company just to feel accepted. Criminal involvement usually starts around the age of fifteen, and people who become criminally involved before the age of fourteen most likely end up having the longest criminal records and most persistent crime rate (Carmichael).
Gang Intervention Program The Intervention gang program this paper will research is called G.R.E.A.T (Evaluation of the gang resistance and training program). GREAT was design to reduce school violence by reducing gang participations. Other programs like Broader Urban Involvement and Leadership development (BUILD) a community base program out of Chicago. Another program was Neutral zone developed in Washington states. This program was base to give juveniles extra activity in the evening to keep them out of trouble.
5/24/08 The legal system can do various things to stop teens and kids from getting into gangs by producing outreach programs, community centers and using ex-gang members as mentors. The government has put in a lot of work to try and help kids to stay away from the gang life and the streets. The only reason most kids are in gangs is for the feeling of belonging to a family and unity. Also, some members like the way they dress. Some of the kids have a lack of family structure and therefore the lack of guidance to help point them in the right direction when times get hard.
