As the saying goes, “there are always two sides of the coins”, everything has its advantages and its disadvantages. Singapore is safe from natural disasters and calamities; we have a wide array of food, best port and airplane. But is Singapore really all good with no disadvantages? The answer to that would be no, there are still many things for Singaporeans to complain about. This essay will now attempt to evaluate the advantages, followed by the disadvantages of living in Singapore. Firstly, Singapore is safe. The Singapore government has gone to great measures to prevent terrorist attacks from other countries. They do thorough searchers on travellers in air ports and ports to check for any dangerous weapons and so on. Singapore promotes international friendship day to encourage different races to share their heritage and culture with one another. The housing development block is also part of this as they have a limited number of each race and require a specific number of Chinese, Indians, Malays and Eurasians. Such things are not very common in countries such as the United States, Indonesia and China. Therefore, I feel proud that Singapore has put in such a great effort in racial harmony. A disadvantage would be the lack of land in Singapore. Singapore is a very small country, commonly known as “the little red dot”. Although Singapore is a very developed and globalised country, Singapore also faces a huge problem, the lack of land. The population of Singaporeans are increasing and so are the foreigners, and therefore we need more land to occupy and build houses for them. With the little amount of land we have, we can only build HDBs, but even then, the problem still has not been solved. This is a huge problem and disadvantage that Singapore is
