When comparing Matteo Ricci’s characterization of the Chinese people to Sepúlveda’s and Las Casas’ earlier characterizations of the Native Americans, there are many differences. However, there are some similarities between Ricci and Las Casas' views. Ricci characterizes the Chinese as being a highly intelligent people just as Las Casas' describes the Native Americans. However, Sepúlveda describes the Natives as being quite the opposite and refers to them as wild barbarians. Both Matteo Ricci and Las Casas characterize their groups of people in a positive way.
One of the more prominent themes expressed in this novel is that of cultural differences and how they lead to uninformed assumptions about people. The cultural differences expressed in this novel are superficial and not hard to find. Unfortunately the assumptions Fadiman nudges the reader towards are not as apparent which makes her ideas seem more acceptable because they are not forced upon the reader. The following pages contain the underlying purpose of Fadiman's novel : the promotion of the Hmong culture and the degradation of the American medical system. These subtleties poke out from beneath Fadiman's overlying theme's of acceptance and cultural relativism which blanket the novel.
While both the Chinese and Roman empires conquered other lands, the Romans were more humane towards their conquered subjects. The Romans’ humane behavior towards conquered subjects led to more internal stability and also a lower chance of revolt. Han China conquered the regions of the Korean peninsula and of Vietnam; however, Han China enjoyed uncontested hegemony over these regions. Imperial Rome did not levy taxes on conquered subjects as opposed to Han China. Both empires allowed their citizens to contribute to the empire; however, they did so by different means.

The author also says that for White America, it was easy to become quite delusional and oblivious to the effects of racism because of the fact that they did not have to endure the gripe and heartache that was associated with the times. The author states that schools that cater mostly to minority students have little
The gambling assessment had very low scores for me because ive never really gambled before so my results were very accurate. The questions were created well in order to try and find out if people have an issue with gambling. Not being a gambler myself I do know people who have had a problem with it and ive seen how it can affect peoples life in a very negative way and know that it is important to get help when dealing with this kind of addiction. The shopping assesment reveled that I am at the borderline of having a shopping problem. I however disagree because I know how to manage my money and spend wisely and know I do not have a problem in this area.
