The Yankees are ahead of The Giants by one point. Batter up – Thomas Andrews. My heart starts to race as I hear my name being called out. I can’t help but feel that the chance at winning this game is on my shoulders. I pick up my bat and walk outside the dugout, only to see thousands of fans who have come to support the game. All the seats of the stadium are full, with people waving their flags and cheering my name. This just puts more pressure on me, but this is also one of the reasons why I love the game. Although you can’t win every game and I know you are going to have disappointed fans now and again. The excitement and adrenaline you get when you hit that ball to the outer field and you can’t help but notice the fans in the stadium jump up and scream with excitement while you run from base to base, that is what is worth playing for. I walk up to the batting plate and tap my bat three times against the floor before I look up and stare the pitcher in the eyes. He throws the first pitch; I close my eyes and swing as hard as I can. My father owned his own company and so we had many afternoons after I was finished school to spend time together and play our favourite father -son activity, baseball. I learnt to throw a baseball and catch with a mitt before I was four years old. On my tenth birthday, my father gave me his very own mitt that he used when he was younger and used to play baseball with his father.
