The colonies were in a predicament where they wanted to control their own economic issues but could not because of the strict British control. The British enacted a policy of salutary neglect that provided a sense of pity for the colonies. The British later merged their mercantilist economy into the Triangular trade. Explain what the Triangular trade was. This trade route not only helped the colonial
Since the colonies were part of the British empire, you can classify it as a civil war because part of a nation was succeeding from the empire. The colonists were in support of a different governmental structure. In the Declaration of Independence, it says That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government. The colonists believed that the British government was destructive towards the colonies because it was implementing taxes the colonists believed to be unnecessary with out colonial representation in parliament. Since the colonies were a part of the British empire they believed it was necessary for them to have direct representation in parliament.
Succeeding James I was Charles I, and his policies propelled England to civil war. In the early seventeenth century, political and economic conflicts between the English monarchy and Parliament resulted in the English Civil War. James I’s political and economic struggles with Parliament are what began the slump of the English government. He believed in the “divine right” of kings, meaning that he considered himself to be God’s representative on Earth and no one could challenge his authority. Because he wanted as little interaction with Parliament as possible, he levied new custom duties called impositions to raise funds.
The Revolutionary War: Why was it fought and was it preventable? Many believe that the trouble started brewing in 1763 at the end of the French Indian War but in all truth the colonist first started feeling discontent with the passing of the Navigation laws in 1650. This law stated that all goods flowing to and from the colonies could only be transported in British vessels. It was aimed to hurt rival Dutch shippers. This law kept money in the empire but hurt the pockets of the wealthy colonists mercantilist that depended on the shipping trade.
What were the colonists protesting? Their primary grievance was taxation without representation. Various Acts creating laws and taxes were forced upon the colonist by the British government. As new Acts were made or repealed frustrations grew among the colonist leading to the formation of patriotic groups and mumblings of action against the British. Although communication between the King’s representatives and the Crown was slow Britain did react forcefully to the colonist rebellious actions.
American Revolution vs. French Revolution The American and French revolution were completely different but the reason or origin was the same; both revolutions initiated due to the urge of obtaining independence and liberty from an oppressive government. The American Revolution originated by the American colonists need for independence from the nation of Great Britain, while French revolution was triggered by the struggled of gaining social equality among their people. Even though the American and French Revolutions fought over the same ideas, I considered the French Revolution to have more impact on people than the American Revolution. The idea of the American Revolution was more towards gaining their freedom from abuse and overpowering of Britain. The French however were trying to cause a true revolution, a reason to overthrown their king and remove all the inequalities there was.
The stamp act, sugar act and the Townshend act are all examples of unfair taxing. The colonists were taxed without proper representation in the British parliament. The colonist had every right to fight for their freedom. Even though the continental army was not well-equipped or trained, they still had a chance after Bunker Hill. The continental
Many, many things caused the revolution. From the economic problems, to the discontent with autocratic rule. Also, the colonies were not allowed their own economy to flourish, not letting the colonials print legal tender money which also in turn, since any monies printed was not considered by the King, it made it much harder to pay royal taxes. After the Boston Tea Party, came the Coercive Acts, or the Intolerable Acts on Boston, which really upset them and made them want to take even more action, rather than just using effigies (dolls made to look like the redcoats and used to scare the redcoat's and boycotting. Between the settlement of Jamestown in 1607 and the French and Indian War the colonies have been isolated by the mother country due to the policy of salutary neglect in which the king argued that colonies should take care of their own affairs, as the British were busy fighting foreign wars.
Socially the war was not revolutionary because, there was still that one race that was not treated like they belonged and felt like they were taking up space. Politically the war was not revolutionary because, the imprisoned slaves were not allowed to be apart of the Declaration of Independence. Therefore Revolution was both revolutionary and not revolutionary because, of the three stated topics above. The American Revolution was the most important event in the history of the world since the birth of Christ,-stated by Richard Price. The Revolution was revolutionary based on economic factors because, as apart of the empire the colonies were protected from foreign invasion by the British military.
The United States fought of the oppression over the colonies in the late 1700’s by first peacefully protesting the unjust taxes waged against them. Slowing building into a common belief that the people in the colonies had the same rights as those of Britain, and asking for the same rights. After the government chose to ignore their rights, and tax more or in and out of the colonies did the American raise arms to separate from the tyrant rule of Britain. We still find certain laws unjust and willingly break them to bring forth the point of wrongdoing, and that issues need to be addressed in today’s society for the betterment of our children. We have people that chose to not wear their seatbelt in their vehicle.
