Crisis Intervention Paper Case The client, who will be referred to as Ana, is a 79-year-old, 95-lb., African-American female, of Christian faith, who is legally blind and has some hearing impairments as well. Ana is recently widowed (her husband died of congestive heart failure 18 months ago) with 2 adult sons and 1 adult daughter; her 3rd son died from medical complications 5 years ago. Ana currently resides with one of her adult son with whom she has a strained relationship. She would prefer to live alone; however, she believes her son would end up homeless if she were to put him out. Presenting Problems Ana stated that she felt sad and depressed. On her intake form, she checked the following: headaches, depressed, bowel disturbances (history of bowel obstruction), unable to sleep, tired, no energy, always worried about something, nervous, low self-esteem, sense of worthlessness, dizziness, feel tense, loss of appetite, deep sadness and little desire to live. She reported suffering from these symptoms for over a year. Ana stated that she was often irritable and tearful. She exhibited more than five of the DSM-IV-TR (American Psychiatric Association, 2010) criteria for Major Depressive Disorder, Recurrent. She stated that she is depressed most of the day and has little interest in company or any activities besides lying in bed or watching television. Over the past year, she has suffered a significant weight loss (35 pounds) and she suffers from insomnia (averaging 3-4 hours per day). As a result she has a loss of energy and fatigue. In addition, she reported feelings of worthlessness and guilt; her last words to her husband were in anger as she had no idea he would die that day. Crisis Ana suffers from a crisis of multiple losses—her son died unexpectedly and her husband died without her having a chance to make amends and say good-bye. She is now
