How Social Media Affect Us Introduction The social media is a way to communicate with your friends, to write and upload pictures, and it’s also a way to find out about many information and news that are going on around the world. However, how does the social media help spread information around the world and how does social media affect the people who use it? This research paper focuses on the impact and effects that the social media has on people. The impacts and effects that social media has on people are news and other information are spread faster and sooner on the social networks than other places and people are more time on the computer because of social media instead of doing homework or doing a sport or even exercising. Unit 1 Essay: Regulation of Speech on the Internet I believe that while speech on the Internet should be regulated there will still be no way to completely control what is said by different Internet users on the Web. Plus there are instances that a person may be being sarcastic with one of their friends online but if read by others, it could be taken out of context and be seen as rude or hateful. That is only on a small scale though. Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. The First Amendment gave each and every United States citizen the right to free speech.
They comment that "moving to a mandatory ISP filtering regime with a scope that goes well beyond such material (child abuse and terrorism) is heavy handed and can raise genuine questions about restrictions on access to information." iinet an Australian ISP who are also against the filter accuse Conroy of intentionally giving false information when he claims "85% of ISP's welcome the filter." So now he’s a liar too. The general public has taken protest even further. The group anonymous attempted to "annihilate (the Australian governments) presence on the internet" by dosing Australian government websites, mainly the aph website.
The Internet is a technology that changed the way we read. The Internet causes us to loose focus or to just skim through information really quickly. The need to get information quickly, rather than spending the time to read a book, is due to the Internet. When I need to read something for a class I would much rather go to Spark Notes on the Internet, rather than read a complete book. The Internet has helped reading to evolve.
Considering the worst-case scenario for PRISM, assume that all internet firms products are compromised. Albeit true alternatives exist, the scope of the products offered by the co-operating companies is simply too large. One would need to change operating systems to Linux, stop using Android or Apple devices, abandon Facebook, Google, YouTube, and many other beloved services, and that’s merely scratching the surface. Even still, with the knowledge that the NSA can snoop directly through ISP’s, one would have to go to extremes such as using services such as the The Onion Router (TOR) that will completely hide ones identity. While nice in theory, TOR is not publically accepted and is widely regarded as the “darkweb” due to the sheer amount of illicit content accessible.
English 102-21949 Should the Government Regulate the Internet? Do we want the government censoring our stream of information? What about our rights to free speech or freedom of information? We would never think of censoring our television stations or allowing our phone lines to be tapped, so why would we want to allow the government to regulate the internet? When we use the internet, we expect to search for and receive results from a wide range of thoughts and ideas, where we go and who we listen to is our prerogative.
Kirsten Laman ENGL 1301-61507 Professor Jackson 30 October 2014 Cognitive Effects of the Internet The book The Shallows by Nicholas Carr states that the introduction of the internet into society has had a profound effect on our culture. In other words, the internet has affected the way people think, read, and remember. The rapid access to tons of information has also affected people’s behavior making them less patient and less productive. According to Carr, “The Net commands our attention with far greater insistency than our television, or radio or morning newspaper ever did” (117). In today’s world, the internet has become essential to work, school and entertainment.
