Running is one of the most popular exercises. People run to keep themselves healthy but there are also risks of getting injury while running. To protect people from getting injured, companies has come up with many new designs for running shoes to ensure the safety of runners. Those companies claim that the new shoes will ensure the safety of each runner, but are those just the claims or is it the truth. While some believe that wearing shoes help with the performance and reduces injuries risk, others don’t believe so. There are many points of views regarding the effectiveness of running shoes. This paper shows some of the stand points and also provides some claims and support for each of the stand points. Three of the standpoints shows in this paper are barefoot running is better, traditional running shoes is better for performance, and the style of running matters the most. There are a couple articles that support my first position which is running barefoot is better than running with shoes. The first article was written by Dr. Mercola. Throughout the article, he talks about the benefit of barefoot running. He thinks that barefoot running might be better for you because barefoot running can reduce injury risks. According to the article, the feet of human beings were designed to work best without wearing any shoes. Most athletic shoes provide extra padding and protection. When our feet are surrounded by these features of the shoes, they will be under pressure and therefore the muscles of the feet will not function appropriately. Michael Warburton, a physical therapist in Australia, has found that by running barefoot, the possibility of suffering ankle sprains and chronic injuries can be reduced.
